Junkyard Rat
Well, I finally broke down and admitted defeat- no way I'm going to get the '75 Safari up to my wife's standards by the time the 3rd child comes in August.
Since she was set on a wagon, and she wasn't comfortable that the 3rd row in a Taurus / Merc wagon was safe, I picked up a '91 Caprice wagon.
It's got 80k miles, and everything except the in-dash tailgate release switch works. I'm happy with the deal.
It's amazing the contrast between this and the SHOs. It's got the base 305, not the 350 LT1 (unfortunately) and it does 0-60 in "meh". Also, corners like a couch. But... no rattles, squeaks, or strange behaviors yet. So floaty on the highway you feel like you are on sand.
The kids love the "tailgunner" seat.
My wife has not driven it much since we only picked it up Friday, but I
m interested in seeing how she gets used to it after driving a v8 SHO for the last 4 years.
Now I've just got to get rid of the '75 Safari.
