My rear calipers are sticking since my rear brake job (calipers, hoses, pads, rotors, brackets). My mechanic checked it out and he said that the brakes are working fine but it is a hydralic problem. The fluid is being pushed in to compress the caliper but it is not draining out so the caliper is sticking. He said he got them to free up by opening the bleeder. So, he kept it for today and did some further diagnostics. He said it is not the proportioning valve nor the MC. He traced it to the ABS "box" or where the fluid runs through the ABS system. He said he didn't feel comfortable tearing into that, so off to the dealership it goes....(bye bye $). Their goes all my suspension $..guess that project is now on hold. So, the dealership is gonna take it friday morning. What am I lookin at here, anyone have any ideas on what is going on?

Thanx, Doug

New brackets and I'm assuming new slider pins as well correct? If so, are you absolutely sure he replaced the rubber lines that lead to the caliper? They may look fine on the outside but the insides can collapse and they will cause the caliper to not be able to return to it's normal position.

I did all the work myself. Yes, the brackets came with new slider pins and I also replaced the hoses and completely bled out the entire system. The brakes worked fine for a few days then this started to happen. I took the car to him to figure out what was goin on. He said I did everything right but this was a seperate hydraulic problem. Which he narrowed down to be possibly ABS related.

I've searched and couldn't find an answer to this one, since I have an ATX and never use the parking brake can my parking brake still cause my rears to hang up??? After reading all the posts I'm experiencing similar problems after doing a brake job. Also, my prop valve is just dangling around down there, with the suspension compressed or extended, any thoughts??? P.S. I've replaced calipers, brackets, pins, hoses, fluid, etc. Thanks!!

No, it is not the ebrake hanging up. I have the e-brake cable extremely loose to eliminate it. With the E-brake off I can grab the wire and pull it up on the caliper so it is not pulling the caliper at all. Well, Ford took it today and for $85 they are gonna tell me what is wrong. I wish they would throw in a tub of KY for free, at least to make it more comfortable.

I am having a similar problem although I think my issue is my parking brake cables. I have replaced everything else at this point including the master cylinder, removed the proportioning valve, replaced the calipers, etc. Getting mighty expensive!

Fixed! Well, it took Ford approx. 4 hrs and a total of $85 to solve my predicament. He said that their was an extreme amount of air in my system. Apparently I did not bleed it out all the way, although I thought I did. He said that the air in the lines would keep the calipers seized, that they could see the lines collapsing under the pressure that the air was creating in the system. So, my SHO is back in my hands and is fully functional in the brake system! So, next time I know to bleed the crap out of the system whenever I open it up.
