Hey there folks!
got an '89 w/leather (gray). Front seats are SHOT.... re-upholstering at a local shop in TX quoted at 1k$. Not sure I wanna do that what does a replacement cost? (full powere everything...?). Any suggestions?

Also need the fog lights replaced; in fact the whole front skirt is in need of TLC (or RIP, whichever way is cheaper...) - particularly on the pass. side the trim between the skirt and the fender is loose.

Just get some seat covers if you can't part with the high cost of recovering. You might be able to find some used ones, but keep in mind that the age of these interiors in a daily driver is about at its limit (especially driver seat) unless it's been meticulously cared for.

well there is no cheap way to re do your seats the only thing i could suggest is to go to a junk yard find an SHO and check the seats or actually find a lower age SHO like a 94 or 95 and take the seats from those at a junk yard, or even a 96-99 might fit in your 89, but your best bet for a cheap seat is to take a look around at junk yard near you. good luck.

Definitely check the junkyards...there probably isn't a whole lot of places that do an interior for less than 800-1000$ ... even if there were a really cheap place, would you want to take it there? If all the good shops do it for 1k anybody doing it for 300-400$ isn't using the same quality of materials and you'll be back to where you are now in 30k miles.

When I lived in CA friends would take their cars to Mexico and have work done for about 75% the cost. Isn't it worth the drive? Here in pa I took the seat apart and brought the cover, along with some leather I got cheap at a fabric outlet, to a local shop and for $100 had the seat redone. There is a lot of labor involved in removing and replacing the cover.

That's not a bad idea. Racing seat isn't a bad option either.

Try getting a quote for vinyl replacement. I saw a SHO with a vinyl job and I couldn't tell a difference. The job was awesome and performed in Fort Worth!

Funny you say that, mine just started to get loose itself, too. You can fix this with double sided sticky tape from AutoZone or O'Reilly's, it holds up to at least 130mph...tried and tested. ;)

If you go to mexico to get upolstry work done, make sure you watch it being done. I had a friend some years ago try that down there. He went and got something to eat while he waited and they stuffed his new seats with straw instead of the foam that is normally in there, lol. Needless to say his complaints got him nowhere and he came home with straw filled seats

When I was stationed in El Paso, a friend took his 61 Galaxie into Juarez for complete tuck n roll interior. Beautiful job. However, they stuffed his seats with weed, copied his key, and stole his car after he had gone back over the border. BTW, he did get his car back, needing re-reupholstering.

replacement seats for 89 SHO

one of the best upgrades I did for my 89 Taurus GL/SC was to replace the stock seats. Found a set of grey from a 2001/02 Taurus, and did a 1-for-1 swap. With the SHO will not be able to re-use the middle section, but the seats bolted in just fine. The newer Gen 4 taurus seats are very nice and simple replacement. With the SLO, needed to hard wire in the power seat on the drivers' side, since the 89 GL did not have wiring.

Electrical issues aside, the fit was perfect. Much cheaper than other options.
