My seats in my 89 are shot. the fabric is ripped on both the passenger and driver seats and in some places is non-existent. a local upholsterer said it would cost $1000, almost as much as i paid for the car to fix. is there any way to get relatively cheap seats or re-upholstery.

yea my drivers seat is getting pretty bad too. i looked into reupholstry, but wayyyy to expensive. for the price of getting the seats redone you can easily buy another parts car. just find one in really good condition with some mechanically screwed up. lol, i said just find one... well it wont be easy, but they're out there. just start looking around, and seriously, hit up some junkyards.

Seats For 1989

I got a complete set of extrremely nice gray leather, both power seat tracks and rear seats from a 95 SHO. Paid $100 from a local junkyard. But that is uncommon. Keep in mine the gray on the Gen 2's is different than the Gen 1's. And the rear seat is flat across the top. It does not have the double **** of the Gen 1's. I just got a $700 estimate from a local upholsterer to redo both front and rear seats in 2-tone gray vinyl for my other 89. Price is lower than using leather and and there really is some nice, durable material out there. Plus you can opt for contrasting stiching. I'm going red to match my red 89. Plus you can lower the cost if you remove the seats from the car and / or tear them down to just the seat bottom and seat back. Good luck.

I have been toying with the idea of working on a leather/vinyl kit for the gen I... however the downside would be it would probably take a while to get good patterns and make a few good prototypes but then after that I think it would be possible to make one in a week or so... Havent decided if their is a big enough market to acctually start working on it though... and then possible sell them, for you to install yourself... oh and 700 is a GREAT price for a trim shop btw... my shop starts at 895 and thats just for a basic interior installed... for the cheap route I would go junkyard

I find the 'little' guy that owns his own shop is the best to work with. Compared to a huge shop or a chain you receive more personalized service.
