Anyone remember in the Fast and the Furious (terrible movie btw) I think it's in Vin Diesel's RX-7 where he pulls up the seat to turn on his NO2? Has anyone ever attempted this or know of a place where I can get information about it. I want some place to be able to mount my laptop kind of inconspicuously and thought this would be perfect. I wanna be able to get/write software that I can use to monitor my car while I'm driving. And possibly use it to run my MP3s off my computer into my deck.. any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Was it you who asked this about 2 months ago? Anyways I'm pretty sure your only option would be to take your seat to a custom interior shop and have them do it for you.

what aftermarket stereo do you have now? i dunno if your lap top would be too happy with all the banging after a month. i would sooner invest in an i-pod or a memory stick walkman of some sort. i would imagine that if you really wanted it to do the seat thing and have it look good you would have to take it to a real seam shop likr BlewByU said. i have a feeling it wont work on our seats though. let us know what you do in the end. later.

No, that wasn't me that asked about this a couple of months ago... damn.. I thought I'd be original. But, I was thinking about the banging around thing, and I guess I would just have to try to make something that would supress the bumps so much. Kinda like a foam bedding er something. But as or right now I have my Eclipse 5441, with my laptop hooked up through the AUX outputs. I like to do it this way becuase I can get an equalizer/DSP for a computer program with suprisingly good results a lot cheaper than I can get a standalone from Eclipse. I'll keep ya posted. Later beer

They make decks that play MP3 CD's. In fact, I have one in my Taurus.

deck

Awesome deck, I recommend it.

Do you want the laptop to run diagnostics on your car? I can't think of any practical way of hooking your laptop up to run tests on your car. It's a nice thought, but you have to think, how are you going to send the messages from your car through the plugs on your laptop? There'd be a lot of programming, and a lot of engineering involved.

my brother has his palm pilot hooked up to his car permenantly and hooks up his laptop to his eclipse after runs to get all sorts or read outs. no clue how it works, but yes, LOTS of engineering and LOTS of time and work. i would forget it, unless u can write software and make your own hardware

i would suggest building a computer into the interior of the car some were and intall that to a hide away screen seperate from the computer. This has been done and was featured in Maximum PC magazine the guy removed his passanger air bag and indtalled a computer whitch he used to run MP3's, movies, Ect.
to connect it to teh computer there are some programs already written you can look around the internet for more information.
you can also install a 802.11 a,b,g wireless network to download mp3's to the car.

I REFUSE to let burning CD's go the way of the 5.25 floppy! Seriously, I get enough of the computer in the house. Too much to deal with a full-fledged computer in the car. Someone online sells a specialty pc just for hogging tons of MP3's to the stereo, and I think he's also got instructions on doing it yourself. Can't remember where, but searching google should pull it up.

Well, I know for a fact that there is a company out there that makes a diagnostics program that will do readout whil you drive, it's really nothing fancy, more less like a diagnostics tool that you can see at your local garage. It just hooks from the diagnostic port on the car and then into the serial port on to the computer by means of a little box that converts the signal from the SHO computer to a program that you can load onto a computer. If you go to www.obd-onboarddiagnostics.com, you can see that they already make athe adapter and software for it. So.. actually.. the only hard part would be the seat thing being the software is already out there.. boink

SHOck, you must be thinking about the Kenwood Music Keg or something of the likes, all it basically is is a USB compatible 20 gig harddrive that you can store MP3s on. And then it has a dockingstation in the car that will run it to your recievable, from what I have heard, they are a pain in the a##.

I cant tell from the pic, but what deck is that? I am looking for a decent head unit that plays MP3's with RCA sub outputs.
