Has anybody had problems with there front seat belts.
For some reason my passenger side seat belt is not working correctly. The belt tight'ens up but never lets go. (which total chokes my pregnant wife)

I just can't believe the seat belt mechanism has failed on the passenger side.

I'd be willing to be that since she is pregnant she is pulling the belt out too far. This is intended for child seat use (you pull the belt all the way out and hookup the child seat and then you pul the belt tight and the child seat is held tight).

What I would reccomend you try is
1) Have her move the seat all the way back as this uses less seat belt travel since you have move the buckle on the side of the seat closer to the seat belt assembly.

2) Adjust the shoulder adjust on the B Pillar down lower as this also uses less belt to get the the buckle.

Hopefully that does it... However if she ever leans forward it is likely she will hit the end (or the last few inches) of the belt which will put the mechanism in child seat mode, and the only way out of it is to unbuckle, and let the belt all the way back in.

Good Luck, enjoy the mood swings.

And for future reference the rear seat belts (on the sides) work the same way for when you need to put in the car seat :-> Chances are you ideally want the infant seat in the middle (on the lapbelt) in case of a side impact collision as it puts the seat more in the center of the vehicle.

I had a passenger side belt fail in my '96 Sable. It would continue to tighten up and not release. They replaced the ratchet mechanism in the door pillar.

Thanks for the idea's!

I have moved the passenger seat back and will adjust the height too.

I believe there is a problem with the seat belt mech. though because it makes a weird winding noise.

Hopefully this works for now until my first oil change.

thanks again.

The problem with the seatbelt on my pass side is that it will not retract back into the pillar after it is done being used. shrug

Question for 99v8SHO,

I noticed below you stated that you removed your silencer , did you also replace the exhaust too?

How does it sound , too loud ?

"Saxacone and silencer removed"

thanks

Removing of the saxacone and silencer did not make that much of a difference in terms of the sound. I have not Porterized it yet, that is the next step.
In terms of my exhaust, I have two Borla mufflers sitting in my trunk ready to be put on, just have not found the time yet. I am sure they will sound great. Once they get put on I will *try* to post a video.

Move the seat all the way forward and take off the B pillar trim. the ratcheting mechanism is located there. You probably need a new seat belt. Should be easy to find used.

It is more of an annoyance than anything. Does this pose a safety hazard for those who ride in the front seat? If the ratcheting system is farted up, then is there a chane that it will not lock up in the event of a collision?

Moving the seat back and adjusting the seat belt height did help but it still locks up sometimes.

I believe somewhere down the road i need to replace the mechanizm.

thanks for all your help.

(Oh and the exhaust issue) i would have thought that removal of the sound reducer would shown something?

thanks again

I would try not to loose any sleep over the seat belt issue if I were you. The little one (once they arrive) will take away more than enough sleep. They are worth it in the end. My oldest is about 10 and she is starting to make me wonder if it can still get worse, but the youngest is three and is a ball of fun unless she is in trouble.

Enjoy your new toys (your Gen III and the new addition).

PS: time to update your Sig I am thinking.
