I have a Pro M 77 and i got a low voltage code 157, after i reoiled my KN, but the CE light only came on once and no more after that, that was like 2 months ago. Well, i was wondering, what exactly i clean, i took off the kn filter and i used a qtip to clean these 2 lil metal strips, but what are these wires people talk about, do i open the black box on top of the MAf itself? the 2 lil metal strips werent dirty either, so im clueless as what to clean, if i can even open the black box where the connector plugs into it.

Well I don't want to interject for Scott, but I did this process just yesterday. The problem is that the MAF sensor filament can get gummed up causing a misreading of the a/f mixture. I picked up a can of Radio Shack electronic cleaner at my local store. It ran a bit pricey ($11) but it has made a difference about getting my car a bit leaner. It is white with a little brush on the end of it. All you have to do is spray a bit on the filaments, and then LIGHTLY brush with the brush that is included. If you stay away from the q-tips, you don't have to worry about any pieces of cotton remaining on the filament. Good luck..

I'm not familiar with the internal layout of the Pro-M 77m MAF, but I suggest that you do not touch the sensor filaments with anything except liquid cleaner. They look like two incandescent light bulb filaments and are just as fragile. One is heated (the dirty one) and one is not. You can spray them gently with electrical contact cleaner of intake cleaner.

I am doubtful that cleaning the filaments can change a low or high voltage reading on MAF. The EEC only knows what the voltage is coming through the filament. Being dirty will only make it inaccurate, not too low or too high. I am not sure about this, but I doubt the EEC is refined enough to know that the temperature reading of the MAF is to far from the truth because of a dirty filament. I hope the cleaning helps and that the CE light doesn't come back.

Well i undid the 2 allen screws and took it out, neither of the filaments looked dirty, they both look clean as a whistle, same color and everything, but i did spray them with some intake cleaner and air dried it and put it back on. im gonna fill up, use the whole tank, check mileage, then put on my stock 55maf and do the same, and see what my results are. Yeah the CE light only came on that one time on the highway when i got on it in third gear and it was only for a brief second, never came back after that.

Could you possibly have a short in the electric connections to the MAF. if you do, and the wires jiggle at a certain point, that could cause a low voltage reading, and it would be VERY intermittent, gradually getting worse as the short becomes weaker. Just a thought...
