I've been using synthetic for about 20,000 miles now. I've been reading the discusions on what oil is best and i'm thinking of going right to castrol Gtx. Is it a simple transition? I've heard once you go synthetic it's a pain to go back to synthetic. Can someone help be rebuff this conjecture.

I switched back, no problems. Consumption was quite hi on the synthetic stuff. At about 175,000 miles I was blowing a quart of synthetic out every 800 miles. Changed over to organic based oil and consumption was cut in half, it now varies between 1400 and 1800 miles to a quart. Now have 246,500 miles on my 92. I do believe synthetic will keep the engine internals a lot cleaner, but lubricating the exhaust pipe was a waste of good oil.

Perry, that 246K is very impressive. Way to keep a SHO running good. You should be able to switch back to conventional oil with no problem. I know that you can even mix synthetic tranny oil with organic so I would think that the motor oil is the same way.
