I haven't posted it yet. I've put a lot of money into the car. Just doesn't love me anymore.

I took one test drive today and realized I would rather just figure out what is wrong with it. The problem that I am having is that the car will suddenly **** and if the gas is applied the car will begin to sputter. Meanwhile, the check engine light turns on. It will only do this for about 20 seconds (once it almost did this my whole ride home) then go back to being the champion it has been in the past. I took it to the mechanic and they cannot run the engine code because the light does not stay on long enough and I do not want to go broke by letting them guess what it is. The problem seems to be heat related because it did not happen once this winter only recently now that the temperature has gone up (Did this on and off during last summer). Any ideas?

If your mechanic thinks that he can only read the codes while the CEL light is on, DO NOT go to that mechanic. Learn how to read the codes and post them here or in a new post in the correct section.

While the car is running reach behind the glove box and give the PCM some firm taps. See if you can get it to act up by doing that or if its already acting up see if that gets it running better. I had similar issues in my 89 and replacing the PCM did the trick.

+1 on that.

if you cannot fix it yourself, you likely cannot afford to have a SHO...

On the contrary. I've had this car for 11 years and nowadays, I'd rather pay someone than do it myself. I'll stick with this vehicle until it is time to get a cts-v coupe with the 6 speed.

I'm sticking with my SHO until i can justify owning an M3. :)

Cost of Repairing a SHO

+1 on that.

You sure got that right! With the value of these old SHO's being what they are, it doesn't take much of a repair bill to exceed any possible amount that you could get for the car if you sold it. I sometimes wonder why I even keep mine, but after 21 years of ownership, it is hard to just let go considering what I paid for it when it was new and what I could get for it now.

$14 a month for insurance. I have 2 SHOs so if one craps out i still have something to drive. I enjoy working on them and any money i put into my SHOs still beats having a car payment.

I realized my error pretty fast after searching for a day. I've had the transmission rebuilt, replaced the radiator twice, 2 sets of premium tires, replaced the entire Ac. The list goes on. Any new used car is going to give me more trouble than keeping her.

Finally got around to doing the test and luck would have it, it throws a 111 (system checks ok). Hoping it is the PCM.

well, if the check engine light ever turns on, there are stored codes in the pcm. if the pcm says that there are none, then the pcm is suspect.

on the other hand, if you let it sit long enough that the battery went dead, then the codes were erased and you need to drive it long enough for the codes to be set again.

let us know what you find.

Battery is fine. Thinking about just replacing the PCM, but that is an expensive guess

There is a '92 SHO at Pull n Save on 27th Ave. The PCM is still there and should be ~$33.

No problemo. Don't wait too long, they cycle through cars quickly. Do me a favor and check the odometer......
