My thought is to basically lop off the back support, weld in braces up front, and then either using tubular or square steel create and engine cradle. So in the end you have a subframe/engine cradle as 1 piece

I think if the front braces may not be necessary depending on the stoutness of the cradle.

Then again you could probably may a new subframe and that way you would have the choice of whether or not you keep the stock suspension.

EDIT: could a normal gen III subframe be used?

i was just staring at the block and a picture of a 3.0 ranger transmission. and ill be damned, if that sho v8 isnt a duratec pattern after all. now all i gota do is find a actual trans to bolt to it to make sure the crank is in the right place. or the bolt on belhousing that they use.

anything is possible with the money involved...
did anyone noitce the price it would cost to get the whole rwd setup for the focus?
imagine custom setup for the V8 SHO?
i love the idea and all i just believe someone needs to make one themselves instead of buying one from a vendor.

if im not mistaken the setup used for like late 80s cougars and etc have a rwd setup that will fit in the taurus body but of course take some modding.

the rear of the cougar uses half shafts and the diff hides up under the car a little but the whole setup is actually small in size. **** they used to bolt 5.0 v8s on those cars and 3.8 supercharged making 310 ft lbs so im sure it would hold up.

worth a try. i noticed this all one day when i was helping a friend fix his 89 cougar. i took some rough measurements and figured its possible for a GEN 2 at least

I talk to a guy who makes drag racers and custom hot rods. He is thinking it will cost me around $5000 for labor and materials (excluding transmission, rearend, bellhousing) so like $8K total. which is A LOT but considering that a FPS tranny with quaife is around $5000.

I would say that if I could afford it this is the route that I would go instead of rebuilding the tranny. I dont have near enough money to do it but I am keeping it in the back of my head.

I am going to meet with the guy after Thanksgiving to get a more exact price.
