I know this is a common thing with the 89-91 SHO's, but I want to know what can I do in order to remedy the rusting on the black stripping that goes around the car. Does it pop out, or is it part of the whole lower door moldings? Can I replace it with a vinyl or rubber strip? I'm curious as to what others have done to fix this.
I want to repaint my black '89, but want to fix the rust first on the door moldings.
Thanks to all,
Rem

Yep it pops out of the lower body kit. The hard part is what to do after you get 'em out. I put in vinyl trim but it was a difficult process. I couldn't find it in the same width so I had to cut it to size. You'll see that the original metal trim also holds the upper part of the kit in, so I used modified wall plugs. Finally the surface won't be level so to avoid a lumpy looking trim I grinded down some high spots and ridges then urethaned those strips in.

If you can find a Gen1 Taurus LX in a junkyard, you can use the trim from that. The LXs had stainless steel trim. You should be able to paint it black and use it.

Thanks for the info. I think I can find new trim pretty easy.
Thanks again,
