Hey everyone,
I just bought a sho that supposedly needs a crank sensor. They guy I bought the car from had most of the pulleys and timing covers off already - job just not finished.

So I pulled out the cam tensioner pulley, the timing belt, the cam sprockets and the rear timing cover. I noticed a medium coat of surface rust on the right camshaft (in front of the cam seal). Is this something to be concerned about? I also noticed what appears to be rust inside of the intake ( had the end off with the dis and looked in there).

Any recommendations? ie. don't worry about it - or should I sand away the rust on the end of the cam - and put my old intake on from the other sho?

The intake is made of aluminum it wont rust , its just gunk you are seeing (needs a good cleaning).

The cams , surface rust is fine on the lobes. If theres rust on the journals - then I would be concerned a bit.

Use a scotch brite pad, and lightly sand away the surface rust.
You don't want any pitting or rust where the cam seal rides on the cam.

thanks for the input. The surface rust on the cam is only where the sprocket was when I took it off. I'll scotch brite it when I take the seal out. Just ordered all of the front 60k parts so I'll do that when the replacements come. As for the intake -then damn that's alot of gunk. I guess I'll just put my old one on there. Thanks again.
