I just bought an 89 sho and when i got it it had some hesitation when pressing the gas at idle not in gear, in gear and when accelerating when it hits 3500 or so rpm it seems to regain its power its almost as if it lurches below 3500 it also had a whining sound when accelerating like a turbo sound building up. its not the clutch thats doing the lurching cause there is no rpm increase when the rpm increases the car speeds up. i know the front motor mount is bad there is a little bit of oil in the front 3 plugs i dont know about the back ones my fuel filter and air filter were changed there are no knocks from the engine at all when it grabs it really has lots of powerr but sometimes it drives like a normal car. I will changed the plugs and plug seals and wires and even the tapet cover gasket if needed maybe even the o2 sensors if needed and as far as the tps but after this i dont know what to do other than maybe check the fuel pressure or egr valve maybe get it plugged in and look for codes (oh btw the whining sound is coming from the pully area doesnt sound like too big of a deal but there is also a missing sound not very loud at low rpm kind of a sputter once i give her more gas its fine)

------
well now i started my car to go grab lunch at work and it runs like a top purrs like a kitten a small kitten :(
it has power equivalent to a 89 turbo lebaron and it actually still sputters a very very little bit when starting off in first but after that its very smooth i think it retimed itself to a lower power setting i dont know wierd eh?

The back plugs are not that hard to get to as some make it sound. All you need is a spark plug socket couple of diffrent size extentions and drive. You have to pop the small and larger black vacumm canisters out of its clip and and some guys take the large vaccumm hose off the rear of the intake (your choice). I even look down my wells and clean out the oil (#3 I use a mirror sometimes). Does sound like you need new wires.

Just to let anyone who cares know I just wnet and cleaned my plug wells out. I used a 3/8 drive, 10" extention, and plug socket. Did not remove the intake only the two vaccum canisters I mentioned earlier. Didn't remove the big vaccume hose on the rear of the intake. I slowly worked and cleaned all my plug wells plugs (cleaned and regapped) and wires and inspected what I could of each piston. Did not have to use a mirror to see down any of the wells. Entire process took 45 min could have done it much faster say 20 min if I wanted to go a little faster but was in no race. So anyone who is removing there intake to do this I ask why go through all that work and spend all that time.

I've had the problem for several years but until I moved out to San Diego and a SHO enthusiast ran me down on base and let me know about the Clubs and Forums I didn't have the knowledge. I was under the assumption that it was the head or valve gaskets that were leaking. I only have to clean them out about once every 4-6 months. After having this abundence of knowledge through the Forum and the 60K video I have all my parts on order and will do the maintenance once they all come in.
