So just a little while ago I was trying to perform a compression test on as many cylinders as I could easily do. I disconnected both sides of the DIS so the car wouldn't start when I would crank it over, and I ended up removing the plugs and wires from #1, #4, #5, and #6 cylinders.

Well after getting everything back together and plugging the DIS back up the car started to run really rough and when I put it in gear it had no power and felt like it was bogging down. I double-checked the that the plug wires were on all the way and they all are fine. They are not junk wires either, so I know the wire wasn't pulled from the boot when removing them from the plug.

I unplugged the DIS a second time, re-connected it, and started it back up and let it idle for over 2 minutes and still the same problem. This engine has been running really well lately and I don't think that there's anything wrong with it. I guess I reset something by unplugging that DIS unit. Any ideas, people?

Thanks,
Andrew

Im pretty sure you cant reset anything by unplugging the DIS. It's gonna sound stupid but are you sure you put the wires back on the correct cylinder?

Hmmm.... I dunno what it could be then. Didn't sound silly at all, but yeah I do have the plug wires on the right plugs. No oil in the plug wells either. Looks like I'll have to drive the garage queen tomorrow. :(

If you suspect that one of the cylinders are miss firing, you might want to pull one plug wire at a time. If you don't notice any change with the wire pulled, then the wire, spark plug or coil for that cylinder is bad. I admit I have done this to the SHO, but I have done this many times to both my 240Z and Chevelle.

I would like to help, but I cannot find "running like $!#&" as a symptom in any of my diagnostic manuals!

It's in there! Chilton's manual.. Section 1, Page 13. :bonk:

So yeah my dad pulled the plug wires off of the coil on each of the 6 cylinders while the car was running. All 6 of them were getting spark at the coil. Does that eliminate a bad plug, wire, or coil from being the issue? Still runs like crap. It wants to cut off when I start it up and sounds really ricey when you rev it (to check how bad it's hesitating)....... It must be running on only 4 cylinders lol. Anything else you guys can think of? Thanks!!!

while removing each wire while it was running, did it seem to improve or become worse on any particular wire ?

I found my problem today guys! I used my #4 spark plug to remove the compression tester's extension from the plug well after. The extension had separated from the line that goes up to the gauge and I threaded my spark plug back into the extension nice and tight and pulled the extension back out. I didn't notice it, but the gap on the plug has been smashed shut and was causing it to feel like it was running on 3 cylinders. Lol. Got it straightened out though and she runs fine again!

Thanks for your effort everyone!
