I have two codes saying each bank is running lean.

On top of that I have a whine that is directly connected to the throttle. When I idle or coastI get a noise that I would have to compare to that of a balloon when you blow it up and pinch and pull the opening...that high pitched squeal OR REALLY BAD speaker interference.

When I push on the gas pedal it disappears but not immediately. It gets quieter the higher the revs get. It is most noticeable when cold (you can probably hear it from a block away). When it gets warm is still happens but not as frequently. (volume is about the same).

I am thinking FPR? Any thoughts?

TIA

Vacuum leak of a good size I'd say. Check the hoses at the rear of the surge tank.

It's the EGR valve.

I started hitting hoses when I turned it on to warm it up. and i hit the tiny thing on top of the EGR and the noise fluctuated. I pulled the hose up about 1/16th of an inch and the noise stopped. Would this be a cleanable repair or do I have to replace it?

Also how hard is it to do the EGR removal/bypass that some have done..any adverse effects?

thanks

To disable the EGR just pull the electrical connector off the EGR vacuum solenoid. It will cause a code to be thrown. This can be eliminated with tuning.

Downside is a drop in gas milage when at constant highway speeds. Or maybe pre-ignition if something is not right with the car's timing or needs ignition maintenace.

Upside is cooler intake.

thanks. I think for the moment I am gonna go the fix it route.

suggestions?

I have cleaned and fixed these on 5.0 explorers but never got the whine. Think it is just clogged. I have no issues with my idle.

Probably gust need a good cleaning. How long has it been since the intake was off and cleaned?

I went to clean the EGR and couldn't get it off the tube from the exhaust. I did however notice that the two bolts attaching it to the manifold were finger tight. I cleaned everything the best I could and then tightened the bolts down snuggly. Not a single hiccup since.

If it happens again I think I might locktite them
