OK....I did the complete 60K myself w/the maint. kit from midwestSHO :thumb: .....after all troubles she runs GREAT!!!!
HOWEVER, i did some local cruising and it didn't heat up HOT at all, hop in her to drive home (20 miles away&1.5hrs of sitting l8tr) she's still warm and heats up quickly, hanging on the N, granted my temp gauge is off due to indiglo gauge job but it's only off by half a letter (if u understand that?) and when i stopped to see what was up, i released the pressure on the cap and it seemed like it was boiling  fan(new) is kicking on...new therm., rad. cap, 1gal. water, and two? gal's zerex green stuff and she was just hanging at that temp for the rest of the ride !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the belt is still a little loose for the pwr steering, water pump, but NOT THAT loose, i've got a newer radiator(2yrs ago?) and hoses all the goodies, WHAT else could it possibly BE???...Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanx

I would replace the radiator cap. It may not be holding enough pressure to keep the coolant from boiling.

I would either say the Thermostat or maybe the cats in your Y-Pipe, but since y u're catless, that cant be it. I thought I had a bad thermostat before I installed the Y-Pipe but after the install the engine warms up to perfectly now. They were probably clogged.

NEVER open the radiator cap on a hot engine. Squeeze the upper radiator hose to determine if there is pressure in the system. Measure the temperature of the coolant with an external termperature device to see what the temperature really is that is corresponding to the indication on the dash gauge. It may not be above its normal temperature, only that the gauge is showing higher than it used to at the same temperature.

If the thermostat did not have the jiggle valves, there is still air in the system and the temperature will indicate hotter than usual until the air is purged through the normal heatup and cooldown cycles.

I thought the coolant came out of the engine through the t-stat, through the upper radiator hose and into the radiator, through the lower radiator hose, to the water pump where it pumps it back in the block. If the t-stat is stuck closed you wouldn't have any pressure in the upper radiator hose...

If the thermostat was closed, the pressure in the upper radiator hose would be lower than the pressure in the engine by the amount of pressure differential the water pump puts up (engine running). If the engine was overheated, you could probably see positive pressure in the upper rad hose. As soon as you shut the engine off, the pressure equalizes through the system. Depending on how hot the engine is, you will see pressure at the cap/upper hose.

I once saw a guy hauled away in an ambulance after opening a radiator cap on a hot car. Happened at a gas station just before I got there. Nothing to mess with.

Is there any way of "BURPING" the system, as in getting the air outta there, or does it do it by itself??? could it possibly be the NEW rad. cap isn't allowing enough pressure build up? she heats up quick but then you can tell the therm. opening and hear the fans kick on, oil LOOX great, considering fresh oil change, and radiator was full of green stuff....im gonna keep driving maybe it just needs some time to get the quirks out??? **** IF I KNOW...thanx to all, keep suggestions coming though please, as im still exploring....also does anyone know where i can get a diagram to double check if all hoses connecting to intake are in the right places and not connected wrong somewhere???...sorry so long!!!!!

There was a thread on TechSHO about an overheating engine. The comment was made that the thermostat needs to have a disk that closes the water bypass tube off as the thermostat opens. Otherwise, the bypass tube stays open and part/most of the flow is not going through the radiator.

Is it a Motorcraft thermostat? If it's not, you might want to go to the parts store and look at the thermostat you bought. I happen to have a Motorcraft and a NAPA and just compared them. The Motorcraft has a 1-1/8" diameter disk on the spring side (engine side) that apparently moves into the bypass tube opening as the themostat opens. The NAPA is similar in design, the disk is 1-1/16" in diameter. I would think the NAPA part would work, but no disk could be a problem.

thermostat kit gives you a replacement Thermostat with B revision "jiggle" valve, a thermostat gasket, and a temperature sending unit.

thats the thermostat i recieved straight from midwestSHO all installed CORRECTLY!!!!
possible that maybe i put it in wrong, which i dont think, or could it be the rad. cap could be the wrong pressure, i think its a 16psi??...from autozone, the pressure release cap, could it be that??? I appreciate everyones help...thanx
