On my 95 atx a mustang belt was put on the pullys to eliminate the ac condenser that is frozen. im not sure if this has anything to do with my problem...but at times my car gets up to the o r range and when it does my power steering gets tense. when my power steering gets tense i get some steam or smoke im not sure what it is. after stopping to check it and popping the hood it is gone within a minute or so. i also have went through a bottle of antifreeze about every 1000 miles. I checked under the car and there is no antifreeze leaking anywhere that i can see. could it be leaking from the waterpump and dripping onto something hot enought to boil it? i can also smell something through my heater....... oil or antifreeze im not sure (mostly when stopped) any input will be helpfull
thanks

Pull off your splash shield in your inner fender on the passenger side. You can pretty easily see from there if your water pump is leaking. Otherwise if you are getting steam on the inside of your car or through the heater vents you most likely have a bad heater-core. I just replaced one on my 92 MTX. Expect a serious job if you have a bad heater-core not a DIY!!

i dont get any steam through the heater vents or entering the car (only outside the car under the hood). when i have my heater on i can smell antifreeze or oil through the vents.

Sounds like a heatercore to me. That job ranks as one of the suckiest SHO jobs. It is not that expensive but a real pain.

hmmm im still wondering why my power steering gets tight when it is running at o r? could the heater core be leaking and dripping somewhere hot that is making it steam? also sometimes when i start my car i have to give it gas for a minute for it to idle at the right level and not stall. 2 or 3 times in the past few months it stalled while driving im not sure fi this is connected to the problem but i think my fuel pump is on its way out also

so what belt are you using for this to eliminate the ac. my ac took a sh*t when i was out of town and i went to a napa and found a belt that would work (not sure what kind of car it is for) but i had to raise the idler pulley all the way up and then put a 1" piece of monoblock (high temp board for furnaces, an insulater for between the brick and steel of furnace, since that is what i do i just happened to have some.) (this is irrelevant but thought id let ya know) under the battery otherwise the pulley eats holes in the bottom of the battery. id like to keep the current setup but without the 1" riser. so i ask again what belt are you using and do you have to do the same as me. sorry this has nothing really to do with the thread. also my belt is a 4 groove belt and not a 5 haha thats funny i just looked where your from and when my ac went out i was actually in pittsburgh on my day off and heading back to brookville for the rest of the week of work. weird coincidence.

i dont recall the actual belt part number but it is a belt from i believe a early 1990s mustang 5.0 possibally. the one i got is a 5 when i got the car they just ran it the normal way without the compressor. when i had that replaced they removed a stabilizer pully
