So recently I was driving and my SHO just dies in an inters section. Crank, no start. By some miracle I get it home. Then another time I am driving and in gear. The RPM gauge drops to 0 and the engine is dead. Again, still moving and in gear so the engine is spinning at some RPM. I coast it off to the side and get it towed.

Is it the Crank Position Sensor? I feel like whatever sensor tells the dash the RPM is what’s failing.

It could be, pull your codes and that should point to the sensor that is causing the issue. If you have a Gen 1 (89 to 91) car, you will have two digit codes, if you have a Gen 2 (92 to 95) car, it will be three digit codes

tach signal only comes from the camshaft position sensor. Your symptoms are consistent with a failing cam sensor. Replace that and see what happens.

Even a failing cam sensor will restart after enough tries. The CPS is another story and I have had a couple that had the same symptoms that only gets worse. Codes would start to tell the story.

The cut off while driving and leaving me stranded only to restart 20 minutes later was a crank sensor for me.

Crank the engine, then key off. Do that again. And again. And again. If it doesnt work after 15 or so tries, its prolly not the cam sensor. If you need a crank sensor, message me.

I'm not one to just throw parts at something but I would do the cam sensor first. It doesn't take long and could save you a ton of time. If you tackle the cam sensor, remove the passenger front wheel liner, get a long extention or two with the correct (torx or reg socket? I forget) and route it through one of the holes in the fender well to the cam sensor fasteners. Makes access easier than trying to contort in that small space.
