Well, once you find out why the engine wanted to destroy itself, I believe you just have to go out and basically do the same thing--rev it way up until the tach needle jumps back to life.

From ShoTimes...

My tachometer is stuck under the peg. Can I fix it?

This is literally a fun problem to fix.

Take the car out and rev it to near redline. Don't worry about it, the rev limiter will catch you if you try to exceed 7300 rpm. The tach should jump back to life out of sheer gratitude. 2nd gear is recommended for this since the rev limiter kicks in more gently than in first gear, since the rate of approach to the limit is slower.

Alternative (and not as fun) solution :

You can take a (straighten-out) paper clip with a hook or a piece of thin stiff wire w/ a little hook on one end and stick it through the hole where trip mileage pokes through and manipulate the needle back to it's original position. Once you manuvered it back past the middle RPM range at (left of the 12 noon position) it falls back gracefully. Be careful not scratch the plastic dash cover.

Your throttle stuck open.

Possible causes:
Binding Cable
Floor Mat jammed on gas pedal
In winter, throttle body coolant bypass mod possibly froze throttle plate
check free action at throttle body / return spring

Most likely, floormat.

well thank you i just went out to try to get my needle to go back and it worked but then i wanted to c if it would stick agian and it did so i quick shut the car off but if i wait for like 2 mins or so it seems to go back to normal but if i start the car right away after turning it off it just keeps revin... i really dont want to replace a bearing or something now i did just have my car apart for the clutch... but it was workin fine for a week now i think that it is just a throttle cable being stuck because i am almost positive the gas pedal was up when this happened the weird thing is tho when i went to fix the needle and was close to 7000 it didnt get stuck.... so it doesnt bind at all times... also i did notice that when i got in and started it started letting the clutch out and it felt like it was about to die... then it started jerking and im not a noob at drivin stick so its not like i wasnt giving it enough gas or letting the clutch out differently im really confussed at this...

is your throttle cable free of any obstructions that may catch it at any time? Would it be wound under anything that's being caught by your clutch cable? Maybe the fork or something...

My car did this for a while. Check the carpet directly under the gas pedal. If i remember correctly, there was a recall of some sort about this. What happens, is the little knub on the bottom of the pedal tends to wear a hole in the carpet. This causes the pedal to catch on it when at WOT. This happened to me once when i was doing a burn out. I was smoking 1st gear pretty good and when i let off the gas, the car was still smoking up a storm... Freaked me out big time.

Probably not your issue: On a few occasions, I've had my foot firmly on the brake and the car started revving and lurching forward. I pushed harder on the brake and the car lurched even harder! Scared the s*** outta me the first time, til I figured out that I had my foot on the edge of the brake pedal and I was pushing the accelerator at the same time.

lmao guys those are good causes... but not mine since i thought just maybe it would be the floor mat i took it out and it still did it... but i think i concluded it might be a bad computer or somthing along those lines since i took it out for an easy drive to see how it would act at anything but WOT and i noticed *normal idle is 1100* that it was idling at 900 and almost seemed like it was misssing but i couldnt really tell just the needle was jumpin slightly then i get going and when i would have the clutch in the rpms would just jump from anywhere between 900 and 2000 the needle would never be the same it was always just going up and down up and down... then... i shoulda stated this befor but anyways when i first took started the car i back ed up and it felt like it was about to die so in went the clutch... rolled out the driveway went into first and started to drive away the clutch was COMPLETLY out and it started jerking as if i didnt have the gas pressed when letting the clutch out... so i push in the clutch and stop just to try agian and see if it does it... but it didnt... so my guess is computer but im not a qualified mechanic lol so if anyone could help me out
