My brother in law put synthetic tranny fluid in his 99 impresa last summer when he replaced his clutch. Well this spring he had to replace his tranny, it ran fine till he put the synthetic oil in it.

After he did the swap, we managed to get just about the last of the oil out of the oil tranny and he filtered the oil and found metal chuncks, most likely from the synchros.

Royal Purple is good stuff and it won't cause any damage to your trans. If parts are already worn inside yours it could make notchiness more noticeable but it's not going to break anything. Mobil 1 synthetic ATF is my choice of fluids, but to each his or her own.
