After taking apart and cleaning the intake (and replacing all gaskets), I'm having some problems. The idle was rough but getting better so I took it for a cruise--well, the check engine light came on after about 10 minutes and I found that the secondaries are not working. The code is 332--EGR related (could this be related to secondaries) Any ideas what's wrong??? I've checked and everything seems connected. Would bolts holding the upper plenum to the intake not being very tight cause this? THanks

Assuming that you had no CEL and that your secondaries worked BEFORE you cleaned the intake, I'd check the vacuum lines for a likely mis-routing. Both the secondaries and the EGR system rely in vacuum for proper operation. A mis-installed vacuum line would also cause the rough idle.

Loose bolts securing the intake to the head can cause similar problems such as the idle issue.

Whoa...I read that wrong at first, thought it said "loose bolts securing the heads". :D

Anyway, code 332=EGR valve opening not detected; I'm a Gen 1 guy so can't help much more there.

As for the secondaries--did you reconnect all the vacuum lines correctly? There is a vacuum line running from a canister-looking object on each side of the intake, and they come together with a T-connector from which runs a single line to a black plastic canister mounted on the back of the rear surge tank, IIRC.

Like Steve said, I could imagine rough idle issues if there were a vacuum leak due to the secondaries or EGR not being connected properly.

Thanks guys...I think everything was connected right but I took the intake off, torqued the plenum to intake bolts some more (when I was taking the thing apart, they didn't seem on there REAL tight so when I put it back together I might not have torqued them enough). Put it back together, and its running great...I think the code was from a slightly ripped tube and the secondaries not working-- shrug ? maybe my imagination.
