For you Va guys, I'd avoid Rosen Autosports for getting work done.

I got quotes from them twice on having my koni struts (I mae sure they knew they were the inserts and not the full strut available for some cars) and intrax springs. Both times I was quoted $1130 (or so, I don't have them anymore), 1 hr labor for each corner, plus 1 extra hour for doing the strut inserts, plus parts at $50/hr. I left my car with them for 2 weeks while I went on vacation, I asked them to do the struts/springs and to either replace my ac pulley and bearings, or if they couldn't replace it, just take it off and put a shorter belt on for now. I paid $250 up front for the work.

I returned 2 weeks later, they goofed something up so that they could not get to my invoice, so they let me take the car home and said they'd call once they found the invoice... that was nice of them. On the way home, I notice a grinding noise from the wheels, checked it out the next day, the plates behind the brakes had been bent... apparently they didn't drive the car to make sure the job was done right or just didn't care. So back to the invoice, they called me later that first day, charged me $1460 on top of the $250 I allready paid, said they'd e-mail me the invoice so I could see it. I gave em my card number in good faith, since they let me take the car home not knowing for sure that they'd be able to contact me to get paid. The invoice didn't come that day (monday), so I called tuesday around noon. One person was there, but he apparently couldn't access the invoice info but said he'd tell the guy who could when he came back from lunch... no invoice tuesday. I called again wednesday, they said they'd send it shortly. No invoice wednesday. Thursday the place closed down for a week so they could all take a vacation. On thursday my driver's side front strut started clunking on every bump and I can feel it move a bit, This may or may not be anything they did of course. On friday I took the car to the car wash, was looking at it, there's a pretty good chip of paint and cracks around that chip on the bumper. It's possible that chip was there before and I just didn't notice, but I hadn't seen it until then. As far as the ac pulley... they didn't touch it. Said they couldn't do it because it's not an import or some crap (it's a ricer shop, mostly). I can understand that they may not have been able to get the pulley and bearings, but there's no reason they couldn't get a shorter belt and remove the pulley like I asked them to do if they couldn't get a new one.

Overall, I am very unimpressed. When they come back I will go in there and stand there until I get my invoice, then I will let you know about the charges. It's possible that they had to replace some other crap to do the job right, in which case that's fine, but the way things have gone so far, I wouldn't be surprised if they just racked up an extra 10 or so hours of labor.

The plates behind the brakes- is that the dust shields? I thought with the Intrax and Koni combo you had to bend or remove them because they rub. Other than that that's very unprofessional and sorry for your experience. Time to start doing it all yourself. Few people treat your car like you would. Good luck with all that stuff. frown

You should call Ford and get an estimate on the amount of time it would take to do the labor you described. Have them make a copy of the list/description for the labor. Take that to the shop in case they try to add labor charges on. There is a manual printed by Ford that lists the labor time and rates for each service. Go by that.

luigisho: yeah, the dust shields, and yeah, you do gotta bend or remove them because they rub. problem is, they didn't bend or remove them. If they had even mentioned that something was rubbing, I would have been ok with it as that's probably another one of those sho specific things (I do very little car work, so maybe it's on other cars, too) that they really had no reason to know to check for.

shofear: that's a good idea, I believe I'll see if I can have them do that when I run in to get my new thermostat gasket when it arrives.
