I just bought a set of 16" slicers for my '89 (has the stock tire size and basketweaves on it). I was wondering if the 225/60/16's on the slicers will be alright.

The tires on the 15" are 215/65/15. I know there's a difference but in your opinion, is it that bad?

Brian- I'm running 225/55/16 on my slicers, and personally I like the look. The sidewall height is just a little shorter and makes the tire look better, but not so much that you get really big wheel gap that looks lame. However, 225/60/16 should work fine if that is what you want. Let's see some pics when you get the new slicers on the car.

Brian,

The 225/55-16 size is much closer to the stock 215/60-16 size than the larger 225/60-16. The 225/60-16 can cause some fender liner rubbing in the front and plastic trim interference on the left rear.

Hmmm I installed them and checked out the whole turning radius looking for contact. None while standing still. I realize there are better tires for the job, these just came with the wheels. At least I know what to replace the 60's with.

The car looks great! I washed and waxed her and then mounted the new wheels. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the help guys. I really appreciate it.

By the way, the centercaps currently won't snap on. I need some open ended lug nuts. I guess I can't use the anti-theft one (whatever it's known-as) ? Or is there a way to get a shorter version. Pep boys had nothing.

You can get open ended lug nuts with anti-theft. I've seen them in Canadian Tire but since your in the USA I guess that doesn't help much...lol.
