Rod Shifters Common ?

I bought a MTX rod shifter assy from a SHO member and after closely looking at what I have on my 92 they are not the same (?). Major difference is the one I bought (see pic on work bench) mounts the shift box from thru the console installing the shifter, the one that is installed (see pic other pic) has what appears to be plate with bolts attached that install under the car with nuts .....

Question: can I install the one I have or do I need to find the exact same ?

The top picture is the plate the sits on top of the one shown in the bottom picture

I don't think that's correct cause the bottom pic the holes are threaded and the bolts mount from top...... complete reverse in the top scenario.

There are two separate plates, I just looked at the one in my garage that is going into my 92 as well

Ahhhhhh I'll pull the 2 bolts and report what I've got.

The shifter lever mounts to the top of the rod shifter via the 4 bolts. That plate with the rubber boot mounts to the car from underneath. The shifter will come up thru the floor when you mount it.

Another question: 1/2 way down one of the rods (on the assy I bought) there is 4"x 4" piece of contoured metal with a couple sheet metal screws that is welded to the rod. The assy I am removing doesnt have this ????? What is it ??? I will post pics later.

The picture didn't post, you would need to post a link to it and store it somewhere like photobucket, etc.

I looked at my replacement shifter and it has that bracket (two L brackets attached together) on the outer rod. I have an early 92, so it is probably like yours and it may not be there. I have to go look at my 94 and see if it is on there.

It was a heat shield of sorts. It sucks when it disintegrates and gets in your eyes when you touch it working under the car.
