Alot of rod shifter questions have been answered in the past, start by doing a search.

I'm having trouble understanding exactly which part of the rod shifter you are refering to. Are you taking about the nut and clevis that attaches to the shift shaft that goes in the tranny, or the larger 19mm (maybe it's 18mm) headed bolt that hold up the rod shifter?

yeah the part of the rod shifter that just stabilizes the rod shifter to the tranny. the hole that the 19mm (18mm) threads into has like 1/2 of the casing/cast broken so the bolt will not tighten down because it only has half of the hole and half of the threads......there has to be a remedy....thanks

If the threaded boss on the tranny case is gone, cracked or crossthreaded the only correct fix would be to replace tranny case half. Any thing else, it would have to be 'rigged'.

Yes, sho us superho...I just had the same problem resolved by buying a case on ebay and having Bizzy rebuild my tranny with the new case.

All I did when it was broken was use a 1/2 in coarse thread bolt in the correct length and gobbed some jbweld in there...it held for 2+ years with a broken rear mount (ang very delicate driving).

That part of the case breaks under a few conditions...usually a bad rear mount has something to do with it...the rear of the engine lifts up during aggressive downshifting...pulling the tranny away from the shifter rod.

I think that under "normal" operation, this mounting boss does not get much stress. But add some spirited driving and a bad rear mount and you are in for a broken trans case.

yeah i bought the tranny with the case boss already broken, but wasn't planning the rod shifter upgrade until my cable shifter went out or i would have had the case fixed before i put it in the car!

well i fix the rod shifter problem...what a genius i am! i used the bracket that the old cable shifter ran to...with a little cut here and a little weld there, it worked perfectly and i now have a firm shift with no movement at all....solid as you could get!!!:thumb:
