Somehow the rod shifter mount, that screws into the side of the tranny (19mm) popped outta the hole it screws into, causing me to not be able to shift gears. Anyway, I figured I could just screw it back in and be set. That wasn't gonna happen. The thing just goes in and out with ease. I used some JB weld, and that held the mount in place for about 2 hours.

Any idea's what I could do to make this stick in place, so that I can shift gears? I could have it welded, but I was told that you can't weld to the tranny because it's aluminum or something. Ideas???

Thanks

It sounds to me that it would have to be rethreaded. I would just tap it and get a new bolt. Is it easy to get to? You could probably turn the tap with plyers or something. (if the space is too small)

It figures it would happen to you. lol

Shifting hard lately?

BTW whats your R/T on that 14.8 run?

The bolt is an odd looking bolt. I don't think I could find a newer, bigger one. The rod like wraps around it and there is a rubber fitting on it as well.

I had a .414 r/t on my 14.806 run.

R/T's don't make a difference on the outcome of your time, but rather how quick you reacted to getting off the line at the right time. Pointless, unless you're in competition.

As for the rod shifter, do you have the correct bolt that came out?

Of course it does. Obviously the quicker you launch off the light the sooner youll get there. I was just comparing. I wasnt trying to slay the topic or nothing.

As for the bolt, Ill check mine out see what ideas I come up with. I wanna know how the **** it stripped in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, as I know very little about these cars, but IIRC the stock bolt is kinda short - in that it really only has a few threads of engagement into the xmission.

I do remember reading at one point about using a longer bolt for a more positive mount. If you were to use a longer bolt, chances are you'd catch a few good threads.

If you do decide to chase those threads, make sure you pick up a bottoming tap.

Recently my rod shifter broke in the same manner you speak of except that the rod shifter pulled apart at that point and took the bolt with it. I had a spare rod shifter that I had planned on selling but I installed it instead. I threaded the bolt in and the hole was stripped. I called around to a local bolt/high strength fastener store and purchased a helicoil kit. I re-threaded it to fit the outside of the helicoil and installed the helicoil. I then nstalled the new rod shifter and a new bolt and it feels tighter than it ever has! I highly recommend that you do this at the very least! It will hold. Also, contact Jose(RKTMN on this forum) about purchasing a rod shifter tranny boss brace. I have done this and I'm patiently awaiting him to get enough interest to make another set. Just let him know you are interested in purchasing one once he has enough interest to make a set of them.

You should be able to see it since you whole interior is in your backseat!

I meant to ask you what the **** you were doing with the interior. What I saw through that DARK tint wasnt too neat.

You're thinking about the 60 footer. R/T is the amount of time between, from when the light turns and when you trigger the start. You can sit there 20 seconds before launching, after the light hits green and run the same time. ;)

I think it's called alumalloy or something like that - aluminum brazing rod / fill. Then drill & tap ******.

You can TIG weld aluminum.

the stock bolt is approx. 5 1/2inches long...a common mod on this is to get one that is 6 inches long(that way there it threads further into the boss)..as far as the thread size im not sure exactly what it is but i know if you do a search on here you will find out the info you need on this

you could either do as stated above and tig the hole and redrill and tap, but no you cant weld the steel bracket to the aluminum tranny. or you could also use a helicoil to fix the hole. i know snap-on sells sockets that fit on taps where the t-handle won't fit.
