My bracket that connects my rod shift to the ball on the bottom of my shifter lever broke today. Seeing that these two parts are made together.. or how would one assemble them? Do I have to buy both the linkage rod w/ ajoining bracket? Used cost? New cost? What is a guy supose to do?

Does anyone make a better aftermarket bracket that can be placed on the end of the shift linkage connecting to the ball on the bottom of the shifter?? The design is horrible! So much stress is put on that dinky peice of metal..

I dont know, but I know that you can buy a two part ball and socket bushing for the shifter for about $32 from SHOnut. If you get that, then all you need is the brace. You could try a pick 'n pull type place and search for an old SHO.

Yea I saw that at SHOnut.. but all I need is the bracket! I just got off the phone with all the local bone yards and nothing.
I talked to another SHO member that said he had his welded.. think this might hold up? Thats pretty thin metal, not to mention a small diameter of metal holding the shiftrod..
Machine shop wants $40 an hour to design and create.. screw that!
Is the SHO's shifter remotely similar to any other vehical types?
A picture is worth a thousand words.. sorry I have no website..

I had just bought a 1990 SHO. My brother drove it for a little while and then it happened. He called me and said the car is stuck in second gear and the shifter moves but don't shift gears. It appears that I guess the cable connected to the shifter by a ball and socket design will not stay connected. Forgive me for my SHO ignorance. But, is this common? What is a good solution?

I wish my car had the cable shifter. If it broke, buying the whole rod shifter would be an upgrade! In my case it's one dinky little part, I don't need the whole rod shifter package. IE: more SHO parts to hang on my garage wall..

Rootbeer88,
Rod shifter on cars built after 5/18/91. So if it's a 90, you got cable. Feel like the shifter is a wet noodle while looking for each gear?--you got cable. Once you go rod, you won't go back.
Anyone else have any input on my problem? SHO--ripper, you might have deal..

Andrew your response makes it sound like i'm trying to burn you :nono:
These go for $120-$150 all the time on ebay. I'm offering it to you for $140 at your door. Shipping will be around $20-$25. :burnout:

Pay the man $140, I know because I have broken 2 rod shifters at the same place. They can not be fixed, I am on my 3rd right now.

Damn, I'm suprised your not buying this one from SHO Ripper so once you brake your 3rd..
There has got to be a better way of fixing the problem at the source.. the weak link.
Here is my idea, cut a piece of metal 1/8-1/4" thick the same dimensions as the bracket side w/ hole (4 shift rod). cut out hole bigger then rod. slide onto shift rod. weld broken bracket back together. push new metal piece buttup against new welded bracket. weld 360 around two pieces..

SHO--Ripper I might take you up on the offer. Would I get everything I need to convert it from cable to rod shifter? I also sent you an e-mail.

Minus the extra metal idea, I successfully welded that badboy. not only tack welding the bracket back together, I welded 360 degrees around the rod on each side of the bracket. Fords little weakness has now become reinforced, so I won't be needing to spend any money nor having to put cash aside for a rod shifter fund as Shoman594 does.
SHO--Ripper, I appreciate your sweet offer, I'm shure Rootbeer88 will benifit greater from your rodshift package.
Rootbeer88, if you buy it, you will still need to by a resonator exhaust midsection off a 91 or newer SHO. There is an extra "kink" in the pipe that allows the extra room for the rodshift vs. your old cable shift.
Thankx to all for your replies, but I give most credit to CrazyTaurusSHO. I dug up an old string of his, and he too had success w/ a simple weld.
