Started the job around 6pm, and was done by 1am, with an hour break for food, and about another hour trying to get the SHOshop y-pipe to fit without leaking, which we failed to accomplish. Looks like the stock pipe is going back on.. ****, I didn't want that extra 1.7 hp at the crank anyhow.

Seems like the bearing damage is minimal. The crank showed no signs of issues, nor did the rods. My only concern is the stuff that's floating around in the engine, I did flush the oil pan clean and put a new filter/oil in. I also took a few pics, but good pics are hard to get of those bearings.

I'm tired, sore, and find myself wondering how long will RTV gasket stuff stay in hair..

yeah, i avergae 6 hours for rod bearings. most of it is getting to the bearings. the bearings alone take less than an hour. im trying to quicken my time into under 4 hours, but hard to do on vehicles that has never had the y-pipe/starter off.

i hate getting the STP crap in my hair. when i remember, i wear a tobogan to absorb most of it. if it soaks thru, then im spending too much time in one puddle.

well, took the shoshop pipe off, and put the stock one back on. Amazingly it seals just fine.

Of course then an A/C line connection blew out, about 2 weeks after I fixed it and more than 300 miles driven. I don't understand how that works, but just another thing to put on the list of stuff to fix, yet again.. Yay.

Martin,
Take care of your fellow pic crew! Ian can only take so much!

I remember Jonathan Ashkenaze had fitament problems with his shoshop ypipe too. He took it to a exhaust shop and had them bend it in order to fit. Dunno if you want to go through that trouble tho..

I was really glad I wore my safety glasses I remember. Glad to hear that it went back together and you are okay. Sore is okay. The satisfaction of a job well done and the SHO with a new lease on life helps too.

Thanks for the help Scott, made for a smooth job without surprises. When you did the plasiguage, what results where you getting? I elected not to do it because my bearings were nice and smooth, no pitting. The cam looked great.

I 'gaged the first bearing and found the gap to be on the tight side. Since the engine was not knocking before I did the job at 269,000 miles and the bearings looked and felt smoothly worn, I determined that the risk of mulitple nut torqueings was greater than the risk of having a bearing out of spec. Even if one was out of spec, what was I going to do about it? Worry? She sure sounded tight after starting up. 269,000 miles did have a lot of copper showing on the old bearings.

I agree, after listening to your advice and Sergio's, I felt no need to mess with it. I was just currious what your actual reading was, and what I might expect to find on mine. I also had alot of copper showing on mine, but no damage done (I hope).
A friend was currious what your plasiguage results were on the one bearing.
