I read on the SHOPP that you should use an assembly **** on the rod bearings before torqueing them to specs... what should i use for this IIRC you can just use wheel bearing grease but that doesnt seem right to me... i am thinking about stopping by napa or autozone today so if someone could help me out that would be great!!!

thanks in advance

Either of the products listed above will be ok. I prefer engine assembly ****. Prolly $5.00 at any auto parts store. Good luck! Just did some rod bearings on a 95 a few weeks ago.

I built many push rod V-8's using STP as assembly ****. I have used Mobil 1 on two rod bearing swaps, one with 40k since the change.

I'm still using the same 1.00 can of STP oil treatment that I bought in the early 80's. When the can started to rust away, I transfered the thick goo to a large peanut butter jar (easier to dip a finger in it).

No matter what grease or heavy oil you use, it is imperative that you let the new oil come up to temperature at an idle or fast idle. This will allow the flung oil to wash down the block walls and get the contaminates into the filter. Change the oil soon.
