I thought I would share for those of you thinking about upgrading the stereo your 2013+ Sony system beyond just speaker replacement. I am now on my third try to be happy with it. First the DSR1 wasn't released and the PAC did not support the Taurus so I was taking signal after the Sony amp into a Helix DSP with high level inputs(you can use a Line Output Convertor as well but the DSP is what really makes the difference), then into an aftermarket 5 channel amp to tweeters and mids up front and subs in the trunk. This sounded better than stock but not good enough considering the time and money spent. I also had a slight turn off pop I could not get rid off and the navigation voice and button beeps were too loud.

Next the DSR1 was released and for $250 plus $40 for the correct wiring harness I decided to try it out. With the DSR1 you remove the Sony amp completely and use the harness to connect in it's place. It has connections to use the factory speaker wires if you want but I already had new wires run and use those instead. You have to flash it with firmware from RF and from idatalink as it seems to be two separate pieces in one housing. RF handle the DSP side and idatalink the factory integration. Plug and play after that to get it up and running. It sounded noticeable better but I had a bunch of issues, alternator whine, loud turn on and turn off pops, slow responding steering wheel controls(and the volume has to be pressed for each step louder of softer instead of holding it), and the navigation and button beeps for now painfully loud. idatalink did get me a new firmware that lowered it some but it was still unusably loud, and their tech support is in Canada and cost me $30 on international calling charges on my cell phone bill. I did not use the DSP as I already had the Helix which is mor powerful but did play with the app and it seemed to work fine although I would suggest a tablet as it was annoying to work on my smaller phone screen.

Finally PAC updated the AmpPRO to support the 2013+ Taurus. It doesn't have a DSP but I didn't need that anyway and includes the correct harness for $250, plus $50 to add optical out. For the PAC the Sony amp had to go back in and the unit is installed behind the dash so it is a more involved installation. You can set the navigation volume in the software and still have some adjustment in the sync menu. No alternator whine or pops... problems solved.

Now just waiting on a new amp to ship so I can have my trunk finished and it will finally be done.

TLDR: DSR1, no. PAC AmpPRO, yes.

If you get everything situated and like it, a parts list would be nice! I'm also considering filling the giant void of the trunk with some extra oomph. What subs are you going with and have you run into much unwanted rattle from anywhere yet? The stock sub vibrates the **** out of my sun shade for the rear window so I have to keep it up most of the time if I'm listening at medium/normal volume.

I didn't have issues with the sunshade either when I was stock or now. The rear deck and trunk have been deadened though. The doors did rattle more before the GB60s were installed but I had Fast rings which are supposed to seal the speaker to the grill opening so the air come through the grill and doesn't get stuck in the door. First time I used them but they are open cell foam so I don' think they work very well. With the GB60s we used closed cell foam weather stripping which I have used before and it made a noticeable difference. it's cheaper too.

I have swapped some equipment besides the DSR1 and am waiting on a new Zapco ST-6X SQ amp for the tweets and mids that I preordered and should ship in the next 2 weeks or so hopefully it will be finished this month. Once the other amp comes in and it's finished I'll post some picks of the install.

Current setup:

PAC Ampro AP4-FD11 with optional optical output
Helix DSP
Sounstream PN4.520D 4 channel(this is just something I had and am using just until the Zapco is released, it's not bad for $100 amp. I was using an Alpine PDX-V9 to power everything originally but it didn't really fit in the new amp rack built for the Zapcos)
Zapco ST-1650XM II mono
SEAS Prestige 27TFFNC/G tweeters Best <$100 tweeters out there IMHO in custom sail panels, factory A pillar locations filled and pillars covered in alcantera
AudioFrog GB60 (not cheap but I'm blown away what an upgrade to my Hybrid Legatia 6s which was my first setup in the car) in stock locations with new baffles and fully deadened doors
Image Dynamics IDQ12(2) Infinite baffle Thanks to Glockcoma and my installer Apicella Auto Sound in Stony Point, NY for convincing me to go IB, I wouldn't have gone that route otherwise but an beyond happy with it for what I was looking for.

Your sunshade is not parking properly. Get a new one and it will resolve most of the noise. I had this problem too.
Honestly if I crank up the volume to 75% or more the sound drowns out any shade rattle. Not a really big deal, just something I noticed.

I ran new wires so sorry can't help. I thought they looked like the standard Ford speaker connector but sounds like I'm wrong.
