i have some rims that the guy said were on his sho. the offset is +38 but when i checked the tire rack website it called for a +40 mm offset. he said that there are spacers to make them correct. Is that true?

38mm is doable, I have the TD 17x8 PR1.2s on my SHO with a 38mm offset. With 245 tires i had to roll the rear fenders but other than that no issues.

I'm running TD 1.2s with 40mm offset due to having the rear brake upgrade. Currently running the 235 tires that were on my 17x7s, but plan on going 245s after these wear out. It looks like I'll have to do some rolling in the rear, and possibly run a spacer.

btw, the difference between 38mm and 40mm offset is 0.079".

38 is actually one of the most ideal offsets for the sho. It centers the wheel in the wheel well pretty nicely. My old wheels were 38mm and my new ones are 35 and I have no issues running a 225/55/16 series tire. I plan on running a 235 or 245 next time I buy tires. Also FWIW my wheels are 16x7.5".

Allowable offset (believe me, the track tires I run are close) depends upon rim width, tire section width, and a little bit on rim diameter, and model year.

If you can confirm any of these measurements it would help to indicate whether in fact 38 mm is enough (it very well may be)

I have 16x7's that are going with some 225/55/16's this spring and they are 42mm offset....will that be a problem? how will they look?

you can't really compare offsets with other people's setups

the only way to really do it, is have the same exact tires, same rear rotors, and the same size wheels....... when you say my 38mm 17x7.5 fits alright, to someone with a 38mm 17x8.... it is a different measurement...

also about the exact tires, even in the exact same sizes, the actual real world size can vary a lot in between tire makers.... put 10 different brand tires next to each other all in the same size, you will be suprised at what you see... 225-50-16 doesn't tell you exactly what to expect.....

Tire rack has good tire information on the products that they sell, you can compare weights of tires and dimensions of them.....

this is a good technical site on measurements
