My car needs a new fuel pump, and i will put it in within the next 1 or 2 weeks. would this cause the revs to go from 4-4.5K to 0? It was in 2nd gear at the time and it has never done this before. Any imput would be appreciated.

You should probably run the codes to see if anything is stored. Does the car start right back up after it dies? Maybe the crank position sensor is having problems.

So the car is still running but the tach reads 0?

mechanical tachometer failure or DIS sensor problem. Run the codes and tell us what you get. If it was the CPS, and the RPMS read 0 your car would be stalled, since the computer would also be seeing that the engine wasnt turning over and would should off fuel and spark! boy was that a long run on sentance or what? eek!

Start by reading the codes. It could be the result of a CPD or CID problem, or a problem with the ground path to/from the DIS module. Read your codes and let us know what you find.

if i am reading this correctly"the tach only droped not the engine rpms'??? if this is what happened check the codes to see if you have acrank sensor or a cam sensor code stored. if not it might have been a short in the wiring. have you put any new parts or electronics in lately???

The car did not die. i was driving and floored it. at about 4-4 1/2k RPM the car acted as if i let off the gas completly. The tach wouldn't drop to 0 if i did that and not that fast. The car really ******, it suprised me because i didn't let off the throttle. That's why i think it was a fuel pump circut failure because the car suddenly stopped getting fuel; even though i was giving it throttle. a second after that it kicked back in and didn't do it again tonight. I will run the codes tommorow and thanks for all the imput.

The car did a little bucking? Sounds like a classic Camshaft Position Senson (CMP). I got mine from Ford at $49, but they can be had from local auto stores for about $30. Easy to change. Good luck.

Sounds to me like the car did stall, and since it was in gear and still in motion, simply re-started. Kind of like push starting a car.

So the question is, what would cause the motor to turn off and on, and only do it once? It could be a bunch of things. I hope the codes shed a little light on this.

Sounds to me like an electrical glitch, maybe a loose battery cable?

Sorry I didn’t answer your question, but I hope that I clarified it a little.

Most likely problem is the CPS (crankshaft position sensor). CPS failure don't always throw codes (mine didn't when the CPS failed). Very common problem.

How hard is a CPS to replace. I figure i have the money right now sho i should probably just replace it. I think my battery cables are loose;could that be the cause?
