Damn it, I just can't get away from asking you guys rapid fire questions about the clutch job I just did.

1-5 shift and run fine, very smooth shift and life is good.
In reverse, if I let in about 1/6th of my clutch's grabbing area, it starts to shudder and buck. What could be causing that?

Was the flywheel resurfaced? Mine did that a little, until I had to slip it a bunch to back up a hill.

I have had that happen for each of the following reasons:

flywheel surface not properly cleaned up
bad rear motor mount and/or dampener shock
missing collar where the clutch cable fits into the transmission
sticky clutch cable

mine was the reverse idler in my mtx
swapped out the trans and all was good afterwords
took old one apart and found out for sure the reverse was shot and so was most of the rest of it

Had it resurfaced at a shop and after installing it, cleaned it up really good. The bushing from cable to transmission is still there, cable is brand new, though I did misplace the bushing on the clutch side of things. I reckon I'll investigate my mounts then. Maybe not torqued down enough :-\

It's missing the clutch cable bushing that fits on the top of the transaxle. Ford still sells them for under $10.

My 95 had the exact same symptoms. Trans mount was the problem. Wasn't broke in half or anything but replaced it and it fixed the shutter. Also mine seemed to be worse if I backed up hill.
