I have decided that soon I will be putting my '90 SHO on jack stands and pretty much restoring it. So far I have compiled the list below of what I am going to replace to give this SHO the power and reliability it deserves! :D

Also: I have decided to search out the best compenents, no rebuilds etc I want all new stuff nothing but the best!

Accessories:
A/C Compressor w/ clutch
Water Pump
Alternator

Sensors
CPS Sensor
MAF Sensor
TP Sensor
Thermostat

Belts
Timing Belt
Accessory Belts

Ignition
Spark Plugs (Motorcraft Platinums of course)
Wires
Coil

Transmission
Rod Shifter Conversion
Syncromesh Fluid
Friction Modifier

Cooling System
All Hoses
Water Pump (Repeat)
Thermostat (Repeat)

Miscellaneous
Fuel Filter
All Seals
Rod Bearings
Flush All Fluids
Valve Shimming

Electronics/Interior
'91 SHO Computer (Good idea?)
LPM
Alpine Head Unit
Dual 10" Sub Box in trunk
4 3-Way Speakers
4 Channel 1000 Watt amp
2 Channel 1000 Watt amp (run in mono bridge mode)
New Carpet (1200 quality)

Exhaust
SS Y-Pipe
Bosch o2's
Sumit Turbo Mufflers
Bent Resonator (Rod Conversion)
Chrome Tips (No WOOOoooo Woooo; Vrooom vroom :D )

Intake
Pro-M 80mm MAF
Cold Air Snorkle

Suspension
Intrax or Eibach Springs (Let me know)
Koni or Tokiko (Again, let me know)

Brakes
New Pads
New Rotors

Please let me know what you think of my list and what you think I should add/remove. I have a passion for these cars and have become more and more mechanicaly inclined since I purchased my '90 and I am very anxious to tear her down and build her up to be reliable, fast, comfortable, and a true classic. Again, I am going to research all the best providors of the above and get all new components. I think this is the best way and would like to know if you agree with buying all new from quality providors over rebuilt/refurbs.

i know it isn't much for suggestion.... but you don't need the friction modifier with the synchromesh....

i would consider rod bearings...... its cheap insurance and you'll have her up on stands anyway

LOL, nope no WOOOO WOOOO for me, i'm a VROOOM VROOOM kinda guy. So hows my list? And as far as the friction modifier, won't this combination with the syncromesh be excellent for shifting?

not exactly a restoration, but it will make your sho more fun.

The Pro-M 80mm MAF CANNOT be used with the SHOshop snorkel, but it is a great MAF.

Which MAF will work with the cold air snorkel? What have I missed component wise to make this a complete restoration? I want this thing completely sound in every aspect. I will add rod bearings to the list as well.

the friction modifier is intended to enhance the friction characteristics of ATF..... Synchromesh is NOT ATF... therefore i doubt it will help at all, granted i'm no petroleum engineer, but i would imagine that your money would be better spent elsewhere.. the synchromesh itself made mine shift 200% smoother....

You could nearly buy a new car with the expense of the list above. What, no valve gapping? Why replace what isn't broken or worn? That is a dream list and I wish you luck, but that would be a full time job for several weeks to perform all of those services.

With the two 1000 watt amps you are going to need a huge alternator. Does'nt California have a noise polution law with a decible limit?

Thump, thump-thump, thump, thump-thump. Music?
Restoration? I do not remember any factory SHO coming with two 1000 watt amplifiers!

No wonder there are earthquakes in California! Thump, thump-thump, thump, thump-thump! HELLO!

Buy stock in a hearing aide company! LOL :D

Enjoy your project. Get one of those custom
California paint jobs to top off the project. Post some pics while it is in process, then the finished project. rangerj thumb

You should get in on the group buy for the upper engine gasket set. If not that replace the valve cover gaskets and plug well seals. New bushings? Besides that the list looks great. I would buy a bullet 75mm MAF. That is what i am going to buy. IMO the MidwestSHO intake looks better than the SHOSHOP cold air snorkel. It's personal preference though. If you have the $ i would get new O2 sensor's with the y-pipe. For the strut/spring combo it depends what kind of ride you want.Good luck and you SHO will be mint when you're done with the many hours of labor. thumb

See? This is what I love about you guys, adding valve shimming and o2 sensors to list. In response to buying a new car, you would be surprised how much all this costs and im talking just good deals on quality new components. I just want my car to be tip-top in every aspect. As for the stereo:), I've talked to a few with similar setup and they said no problem alternator wise, especially with a quality new one this should not be a problem. Also, I will be keeping everything so when it comes time when stock SHOs will be worth more I will always have the parts to throw back on. thumb

Also, anyone know if a new compressor will be ready for the new R1234 freon? Or would I have to buy it as a '93+ compressor?

SHOTERROR,

A "new" compressor will be ready for R-134a. If you install a new compressor, and intend to convert to R-134a, a conversion kit will have the R-134a oil and R-134a compatible "O" rings.

A good kit from an auto parts store should have the garter springs and "O" rings, as well as the R-134a fittings that screw on to the R-12 fittings, and 8 ounces of R134a oil.

Ask the seller of the new compressor about its warranty. Most of the time the seller will only warrant the compressor if you replace the accumulator/dryer, AND use a flush kit on the rest of the system.

If you are going to go through all that work, then remove the condenser core and have it pressure tested by an A/C or radiator shop. If it is leak free, then clean it out with the flush chemicals.

It is also a good idea to replace the oriface line. What's another $40 to $50 in a project as extensive as yours. rangerj

 I'm not! I get pretty good deals locally through work and on parts online and I didn't see anything on the list about the 2500 plus dollars to buy all those parts! thumbup Anyway, I know the feeling about wanting the best for your car but you might be better off just cleaning the carpet really well and not replacing hoses that don't need it and ditto for not fixing things that aren't broken. Then you might have enough to put a quaife in the tranny. You might also want to add gen 3 sfb's and maybe motor and tranny mounts to your list too. Good luck and have fun thumb
