Actually, you misunderstood.... Let me re-phrase my question- If I get some NOS parts, what parts machine shop has done good work for the SHO community and could make us a 'run' of new parts and have the spec's so we would not have to go through this pain of finding squirreled parts again? And do you think there is enough interest in the parts to get a group buy.. 2 questions... Maybe 1, is there enough interest if I find the parts to warranty the effort of a group buy? And I think I found some parts, so that isn't a question anymore.. It is, for the good of the community, should we "clone" the new parts before the become used and keep the breed alive...
Any movie references or evil science puns welcome..

The 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th synchronizers and blocking rings are the most difficult to find.

I think Beth will agree - having synchronizers made would be v-e-r-y costly. The blocking rings are brass, but there are three different blocking rings within the MTX.

Yes, but let us say that, hypothetically, I found a person who happened to have a complete set of new parts...
Is there enough need/demand to get a group buy and do you guys think it would be worth it?
Obviously, it could get the price down and if there was sufficient demand, could get 'real' company into fabricating them for resale.. Sure would be nice not to have to baby these things as they get older... I have 220 on my mtx... How long before the parts wear out or suffer metal fatigue?

I would think there is enough demand for MTX internals. I know i'd buy my share.:thumb:

Having never seen Josh's (SHONut) heavy-duty cryo-treated MTX gear sets, I don't know if they were reworked OE parts, or newly machined parts. Then again, at roughly $6000 a pop - I would tend to think they were newly machined parts, but I can only speculate.

Whoa.. I hadn't heard about these, were they more than just the gears? As I haven't seen too many gear issues with MTX's.. usually 1 gear (3) or R or maybe 2nd occasionally... I know the 4-5 I have been in haven't had any significant gear issues.. But boy howdy, those syncros & blocking rings take a beating...
sigh

Having never seen, I don't know exactly what was re-used, replaced with new OE parts, or replaced with parts Josh had specifically made. Only a few know . . . .

Oh Beth . . . ?

I am looking into buying a 3.0 engine and mtx tranny so I can rebuild them both completly. How is this going to be possible if people are hoarding parts and info?

Can't do anything about the latter - it's already done. As far as the former question, there are more than enough people here to help you get what you need.

Thanks.. Very informative links.... 5k for the 2/3/shaft set..
I didn't quite catch if they came with the syncro's and it doesn't look like they ever got the extra deposits for the next run....

My initial like still stands-- How do we find parts for the our MTX's? Are there interchange books we should be scrounging for?

I know of only one rebuild kit left. All the parts are obsolete and replacements will need to be custom made.

Sigh, I know.. And I was hoping I could get some help getting something like a group buy or something on the synchros at least...
But I am not getting much direct response to that...
I know someone who has a few parts squirrelled away, so I am good for my quaife install at this point.. But what if I want to do it again in a couple years.. Or I need to rebuild a different MTX (since I have 2 more MTX's to deal with still)...
Where will I get parts? Where will the rest of the drivers get them?
I am all for capitalism.. but this is an enthusiasts club, so we should be working toward keeping the cars on the road, and this hoarding of info on the mtx parts is kinda sad.

Its very hard to get a real group buy going. I has been my experience that you have plenty of talk then when you ask for the $$$ the crickets come out and two weeks later the last post is still yours. We have sent out the guts to see if we can have the transmission parts made. Our market is very small and its very hard to get vendors attention when we can only offer one tenth or less volume compared to other cars.
