ok I just ordered a new water pump because I was tired of that burning coolant smell.
The garage wanted 300 dollars just to replace it so I decided I am going try replacing it
myself. But I'm not exactly sure about the procedure. Could someone explain to me
how to replace just the water pump and how long will this take an inexperienced person
to do.

Did you order a new pump? I have been installing, and recommend, the A1 Cardone 57-1373 remanufactured Ford (Aisan) pump front casing with a lifetime warranty from O'Reilly Auto Parts (or others) for $61.45+tax. You should remove the timing belt before taking the pump apart/off because there is no way to do that without getting coolant on the timing belt. For the Gates T248 from RockAuto.com for $32.81+s&h, there is little reason not to.

I have emailed you the SHO Registry's procedure for the MTX timing belt replacement. To replace the water pump is a simple extension to the procedure once the belt is off.

thanks for the help. I already ordered a waterpump, my dad ordered it so I'm not sure exactly what type it is. It was $50.00 and i'll use your advice about the timing belt.

When i did my waterpump, cps job. I ran into some trouble with the crank bolt/damper. I tried my brothers 1/2in snap on air/torque wrench and that sucker would not come off. I didnt have a better tool to use so what i had to do was put a breaker bar in b/t the frame of the car and the crank bolt. Then i hooked the battary back up and bumped the ingnition. It loosened the bolt right up. If i were you, i'd rent a 1 in air gun for that bolt. that thing is on there tight. Just my .02

Here is the position of the wrench when using the starter bump method. I now use a piece of plywood under the wrench handle to give it a more secure place to contact. Remove the forward connector on the DIS to ensure that the engine does not start. Bump for only a split second.

I'll try the air wrench first before I do the bump method and since I have to take off the timing belt anyways when I do the water pump I might as well replace that, its long overdue anyways. Does anyone know approximately how much a timing belt costs?

I have had very good service from the A1 Cardone remanufactured parts I have installed. From the water pump to the steering rack they have worked like champs. Buying through O'Reilly Auto Parts, they also come with lifetime repalcement warranties. I also hope to keep the SHO running long enough to check out the performance of those, too.
