You don't need the bearing separator and puller set. Instead of that, you need a shop hydraulic press.

I always went to the junkyard and found a low mileage Taurus and took the entire knuckle. :)

Hey kirbysho,

Changed two front sets on my 93 mtx. I always found it pretty cheap to remove the knuckle, order the parts, throw it all in the truck and stop by my local tire and wheel shop. Usually done within a day or two, I think they charged me maybe 25 or 35 a piece to remove the old bearing and press the new bearings in.

Side note, I switched the rear knuckles on my 93 to an 89's when they went bad. Had the spares, and bonus I didn't need a press to change wheel bearings either with the older set!

This link explains the procedure and tools required. It's written for a Mazda, but same steps apply to the SHO. The most important caution is when installing the new bearing, you must never press on the inner bearing cone; you don't want the bearings to carry the load from the hydraulic press.

Attached is the procedure from the FSM; the way it is presented seems rather intimidating with the use of special tools and all, so it may not help much.
