get in the trunk with a good assortment of 13mm ratchet wrenches.
when installing, it helps if you cut the top of the studs off, just the tip that isn't threaded. that gives you more room to get the wrench on/off.
there is a trick to getting the big center nut off while in the car, if the top of the strut is a 10mm hex. I don't have a double-D socket for some after market struts.
I used a 13/16" x 1/2" drive sparkplug socket. the kind with a hex end on top. bored the center of that socket out so a 3/8" extension would pass thru it, removed the rubber plug.
that top nut can be several different sizes, I have a mutilated 7/8" deep socket in my arsenal.
Sears has some sockets with 6 tangs inside instead of a 6 or 12 pt.. a single socket fits a range of several sizes and might work well here, if you modify it as needed.
put a 3/8 drive 10mm socket on the top of the strut, put the sparkplug socket over that, pass a short 3/8 extension thru the spark plug into the 10mm.
hold one and turn the other.
or do it the easy way with an impact driver. hopefully it won't spin the shaft violently enough to damage the struts internals.
once the strut is removed you can whittle away and remove enough lead, (yes, that big thing is lead) from the vibration damper to allow a goose-neck wrench on the nut.
have fun.
