My wife managed to "misplace" my spare keyfob on my '14 SHO. I figured it would SHOw up again, but that was 3 months ago....

I'm getting a bit nervous with one keyfob for my car, so am currently looking at options to replace the misplaced one. From what I've heard, Ford is pretty proud of replacement keyfobs - anyone been down that road? A quick search turned up https://ikeyless.com/vehicles/Ford/Taurus/2014/1003713/ - they claim their $130 price is 49% off dealer list price. If I pursue that option, anyone know the specifics of programming a new keyfob?

I bought one for my 2012 in April from ReplaceMyRemote.com for $85.00 & it worked perfectly. If your model isn't listed, call them. Very helpful & friendly.

If you're down to only 1 programmed fob, you'll need to find someone with a professional scan tool to program the existing and the new one to the car. Locksmiths usually are a less expensive route than the dealer for the programming. If you have a locksmith in your area that can do the programming, you might call them and ask them the price for the fob and programming, then the programming if you provide the fob. Sometimes they offer a better rate if you buy the fob from them as well and it might make it a better deal than buying a fob online.

When programming new fobs it will remove any programmed fobs that you don't have with you, meaning if you later find the spare fob, it will no longer work. You might ask the dealer/locksmith to enable spare key programming while they are in the system which would enable you to program the spare if you later find it. It's pretty much guaranteed that after you spend the money on a new fob and programming, you'll find the missing spare within a week.

Check your current auto insurance policy. Agents love to tack on little up charge options, one of these is "Vehicle Key Replacement". This is usually a non-deductible service. If you don't see this listed on your current policy I recommend you call your agent and see if it would be a covered item under another "clause" of your policy.
