Alright, last friday my starter went on me. The car had all accessory's but would not start. I had to do the roll & pop method to get it to start. It starts now and most of the time it starts nice. Starts right up. Now, my question. Once in a while it doesn't start right up. it cranks and cranks for about 5-7 seconds and finally turns over. I don't believe it to be the timing since the car starts right up most of the time. The only things i can think of are battery or alternator. Anyone have any ideas?? I'm getting annoyed with it. Thanks in advance.

Same problem here. On occasion, it takes about 5-10 seconds to fire up the car, and when it does fire, it does it very weakly. I thought my plugs and wires might be fouled. I am interested to know what the problem might me, as I recently had a new battery and starter put in less than 1000 miles ago.

Easy to find out what it is.

Try for a few weeks priming the fuel system before cranking. That is, turn the key to "ON" but don't start it. Let the fuel pump run. Then turn it off and back on. Do this a couple times. Then crank the motor. This ensures that there is full rail pressure. Sometimes these cars leak pressure through the check valve in the fuel pump. If this cures the problem, it's a pump on its way out.

If that doesn't do it, it's probably a camshaft position sensor. I had the same problem until I replaced the CAM sensor. If it's failing the computer defaults to a failsafe startup, but it takes more cranks to start.

thanks for help, can a clogged fuel filter bring on the same type of affect. If you can't tell, i'm looking for the cheap way out.
