Replace stock speakers

2013 SHO with Sony & nav, 402a system. Would like to know what speakers and size the car has. Want to replace with plug n plug speakers, any suggestions appreciated. Need to replace rear deck speakers first, then front and rear door speakers. Thanks for any help.

6x9 "subs" in the rear deck, 5x7s in the doors. Fronts with the Sony are just mids and the rear doors are 2 way coax.

Any decent brand mid priced you'd suggest? I had Polk on my G8 they were waterproof marine style and quite an upgrade from stock. I liked the waterproof since any open window water would drop right down on the speakers (happened to first few sets of speakers).....also what omh do I look for

I was a fan of the Polk DB series but haven't heard them since the redesign.
Can't help much besides that as I haven't touched the stereo yet in this car. Working in a bigger build with just a tweets and mid up front and a sub. What a pain getting preamp signal from this car.

Never heard then. It for less money you can get the Polks and crutchfied should give you wire harnesses to plug right in.

Full range 6x9's are not an option for the Sony radio. The rear deck only provides subwoofer signal (20-approx 200hz) not full range.
As others have mentioned the Sony sound equipped Taurus has 5x7 in the front and rear doors.
The fronts are actively crossed over through the factory amp.
Meaning the front door speaker is a mid range with the tweeter in the A pilllar.
The rear doors are full range.
the front/rear dash have a 3 1/2"

In the beginning stages of my audio build I just swapped the front and rear 5x7 and there was pretty dramatic sound difference.
The factory stuff isn't horrible but better quality speakers do make a difference.

When I used to help my buddy setup competition audio rigs... we always had really good luck with Alpine Type-R stuff... not sure if the stock amps are capable of driving them though... never got my hands on Type-X stuff...

I have only so far seen 6X9 orb5.25 with a plate for the rear speakers all either Co ax or triple speakers and one had 5 speakers. Is there just a decent 6x9 rubber not paper sub woofer re a r speaker available for like 75 bucks somewhere?

6X8 for doors is about the closest to plug and play as you can get. I replaced door speakers on three of them so pretty confident on my recommendation. 6.5" Should also work where they fit in the speaker basket but might need some trim ring adapters. If I were going for total plug and play then 6X8. FYI the 5X7 and 6X8 are the same layout just ones slightly bigger same adapter rings and speaker basket mounting,

Center 3.5" That's center for the rear and center instrument panel. More on center later.

As for brand I have had good luck with Kenwood's for the doors, my installer used Kicker 6X9 for the subs and a Kicker AMP. Basically I have Kenwood 6X8 for the doors and Kicker everything else.

As for the stereo system itself I personally find the system itself pretty decent but the speakers being the weakest link. For those of you considering a system upgrade start with speakers. The 2013 and newer at least pretty much impossible to remove the head unit and the display is just that a display. The days of just swapping out head units are pretty much gone. Yes coming from two NON SONY systems and the SHO with SONY I can honestly say try speakers first. The door speakers themselves are not overly difficult to replace but some attention to detail steps. For one of the NON SONY SEL models I even went with 6X9 rear deck and tapped into the rear door speakers as a power source.

As someone who was a design engineer for Harman I can tell you that all the JBL and Infinity speakers go through extensive environmental testing (to include having to play with 1/2 the speaker submerged in water). I would have zero concerns with the water getting in through the door and onto the speakers as they're designed for that environment. I wouldn't take home audio speakers in that environment, but the car audio speakers are designed for that.

Awesome thanks for the info. ....so the easiest to actually install on the Sony SHO system in the doors is 6x8 not 5x7? And rear deck 6x9 for the woofers? 3x5 center speakers...

Correct the doors are the easiest but for the fronts make sure you get BASS Blockers for the front. This will allow you the front A pillar tweeters to tap into the front doors without blowing the tweeters......Ask me how I know. 6X8 and 5X7 are basically the same mounting procedure just the 6X8 will provide a slightly larger surface area.

BASS Blockers: I used Kenwood 3 way with their own tweeters. I used BASS Blockers on the front and basically since the tweeters are tapped into the door speakers. The blockers do exactly that.....block the low frequency....base sounds from entering the high frequency (Tweeters) They are easy to install inline with the positive........

I need some advice, instead of starting yet another thread thought I'd revive this one since it apply's. So had a few minutes to **** and stopped by my local Tent/Audio shop for a quote. I have the SONY system an don't hate it and know stereo/speaker can turn into a rabbit hole but seems like it should sound just a little bit better. So my reading (mostly on here) tells me the most bang for the buck is door speakers. I got a quote for a set of Focal Integration front and rear, the front ones come with a Tweeter also. I had not really thought about replacing the tweeters but they come as a set so sounds good to me. Its been a long time since my "Stereo Phase" so I had a few questions.
- Anyone know about Focal Integration speakers are they any good.
- Will the stock amp drive the Focal speakers and actually make an improvement in sound quality.
- They want $860 + tax installed that includes a $100 for adapters which he says I need, "Ok I Guess" does that sound reasonable.
- So with Tax where about a grand for all four doors and tweeters, those of you who replaced your door speakers was it worth it.

LOL - I almost had them installed today but I didn't have that much free time and there head installer wasn't in today, You should never let a customer leave after he says "OK lets do it."

If it were me I would do a couple things..

Take your quote and go online to see how much those speakers are. And read reviews... if you haven't heard of them, then that would be number one to do...

Second, any decent shop should be able to lookup what your stock amp can handle... and match speakers accordingly. Max and RMS wattage needs to be accounted for.. you can blow speakers just as fast by under powering them as you can over power them...

Adapter I cannot speak for as I have never pulled them out to see what the stock mount point looks like...

I have installed quite a few audio system for myself and others... some cars do require mounting kits... some don't.. I think BPD has custom mounting templates made for his..

I am frugal.. so if it's just drilling a new hole into the stock speaker box to get new speakers I just do it... some would require a mounting bracket.

I have never heard of focal... but I have been out of the audio game for a long time... my personal favorites have always been alpine type r or type x... infinity used to make some great high end stuff... subs are a different story...

Fwiw... I have never had good luck just replacing speakers... usually any decent speakers require more wattage than what a factory amp can provide...

You truly need to match up the correct speakers with the correct amps... but I am a 100% an audio snob which is a curse...

Biggest issue with just replacing speakers is you tend to get distortion at the upper volumes if the amp is under or over powered... particularly with the high end frequencies since they are more sensitive to wattage requirements...

Not trying to scare you, but if I was dropping a grand on a speaker upgrade it better be spot on...
