OK I've done a little dissassembly (I don't have the new column yet) on the Silver bullet.

I have removed the column shroud, airbag, steering wheel. Now, I'm looking at the column. It looks like quite a bit of digging to remove the whole thing. Then, I see that the housing that needs to be replaced is independant of the rest of the column. It looks like the tilting part of the column is easier to remove than the rest of the column....the question is... Is that the way to go?

I see those springs might be tuff to get back in place. Anyone removed just the tilting part of the column?

I'm going to assume that you've gotten the steering column shroud, ignition switch cylinder, and MFS stalk out already. From the Ford Manual:

12. Remove four nuts retaining column skid plate and remove plate.

13. Remove wiring connector from ignition switch.

14. Remove pinch bolt from steering column tube.

15. Disconnect shift interlock solenoid if equipped.

16. While supporting steering column tube assembly, remove four steering column tube retaining nuts. Lower steering column tube and disconnect vacuum hoses at parking brake release switch (2B623) or remove vacuum release assembly.

17. Disconnect transmission shift cable and bracket from selector lever pivot.

18. Remove transmission shift cable and bracket from lower column mounting bracket.

19. Remove two shift lock actuator cable retaining screws and remove shift lock actuator (3Z719) (console shift).

20. Remove steering column tube from vehicle.

I'll probably take the whole thing out...I was just trying to limit my time upside down.
