I'm looking at removing the window guides in my 90.
Currently prepping the car for paint.
Just wondering if someone has some tips/tricks to remove the guide.
The question is for both front and rear doors.
Also the rear "wing" window, that just unbolts and pushes out right?

It's easy. Remove the interior trim pieces and you'll find 4 nuts. Remove the nuts and carefully push the windows out form the inside. There is a urethane sealer/adhesive that will be holding them in.

This pic shows the bolts:

This one shows the adhesive left behind:

This one shows that the adhesive will mostly peel off:

This is the blob you will have left behind:

After cleaning the residual adhesive with lacquer thinner, this is how it should look:

I just did this and I hope this post helps!

As far as removing the window guides, go slowly and be careful. I unbolted them inside the doors and carefully removed them. If you take your time you will see how it comes apart. Don't rush it. You shouldn't need to be forceful with anything. Here is an image of mine removed. The top one is a rear, the bottom one is a front. I don't plan to remove any glass as it is riveted in. I will mask it carefully before paint-hopefully in the next few weeks! I didn't document the actual removal, but I will document the reinstallation process for all of the reverse engineers out there!

BTW, removing the windows/guides is the right move if you really want to do it correctly. It's not difficult and the adhesive/sealer is readily available at any auto paint supplier. I'm leaving my windshield and possibly the rear glass in as it is possible to lift the trim and paint behind it with a "rope" and masking tape. There is no way to properly mask behind the quarter windows and the door window guides without removing them. Good Luck!

The adhesive is on the quarter window. There should be similar bolts holding the rear channel in, like the front.

I think I may have gotten a bit over-zealous with my response last night because I was so happy to be sharing the info. I went right to describing the quarter windows.

The door window frames aren't held in with any adhesive. If you carefully remove the door panels and the plastic moisture barrier you'll be able to see the inner workings of the door. Look closely at the window tracks inside the door and you'll see the bolts that hold them in. Remove the bolts and you should be able to remove all of the tracks with very little drama while still leaving the glass in place. I removed mine by pulling them down off of the door and then sliding them out carefully. Just be careful opening and closing the doors with the tracks removed as the glass will want to bang around.

...and don't bend the channel liners. And make sure the window is down before doing it (duh, but you might decide to disconnect the battery)

The rear quarter windows on 1st gen cars are NOT bolted in. They are glued in with urethane like the windshield and are VERY hard to get out without the proper tools. As for the door handles, use a small punch to push the center pin out of the rivet and the drill the head off from the outside. It's much easier if you have a helper there to hold the handle up. You can use the same technique to get the glass off of the mechanisms.

Also, if you screw up the run channels they are the same on all Taurus/Sable from 89-95. The chrome strips that are on most models is a separate part.
