I broke the 2 manifold studs off flush with the manifold.. I figured I have to take the manifold off but I wanted to know if anyone has a diagram of the bolts that hold the manifold to the block. Do you pull it out from the bottom or top?

Unfortunately you have to pull the head to remove the manifold. Thats going to be the easiest way. I just did the same thing to mine (see my post in section) but my studs aren't flush.

If anyone knows another way besides removing the head, PLEASE let us know.

You DO NOT have to remove the intake maniold nor the cylinder head!!! The bolts can all be removed from the top...I've done this before...and then drop the exhaust manifold out the bottom. Look at the front exhaust manifold to get and idea of what you're dealing with on the backside. It's easier to remove than you may think...

AAAAH... Thank you Mike93! I really don't want to remove the head if my stud repair job goes the wrong way. We'll see this afternoon.

When I did it I had it out in about 20 minutes. Then onto the benchvise to remove the stud...this part could go smoothly, or like it was when I did it, a complete pain in the a$$.

You will need to drill and either chase the threads or tap new ones into the ******. I've had it take from 20 min. to an hour. It depends on if you have the proper equipment or not.

BTW - I went to Ford Parts today to order 2 studs for my ATX manifold and found out that they are an obsolete part and only manual ones are available. I'm not sure if they are the same or not, but they had different part numbers.

Let us know how you make out.

In the manifold holes not in the head.. Is there an EGR pipe going into the rear mani? Is it tough to get at the nuts for it?

I started today. First I took off the heat shield. Then I started removing the manifold ntus and got all but the farthest passenger side nuts off and then I remember to take care of the EGR bolts. I got a wrench on one of the EGR bolts and kept giving it about an 1/8 of a turn with the wrench and it didnt seem like it was making any progress but then it snapped. Now I have to broke studs/bolts that Ill have to remove. The other lower EGR bolt seems like it will be hard to get at also the last manifold nut seems liek it might be hard to get at too. What did you guys do to get these two bolts out?? BTW all this took me about an hour, so far it seems simple.

Today I got the manifold out.

I actually pulled it out of the top but i already unbolted the y pipe. I wasnt able to get the y pipe completely off the car, it was kind of jammed. Now it seems like the y pipe doesnt want to go back up.

Do I have to fiddle around with it to get it to line up in the right place??
