I was wondering if anyone has any information if Ford is planning on making available a remote stater system for the 2010 SHO? I am not sure how a remote starter would work with a push button start but I am hoping to get a remote start for my new SHO. Here in New England the winter is starting and it would sure come in handy! My dealer doesnt have any information yet and I would appreciate any input.

My dealer claimed they could have done it, but it would have had to be on a separate key fob. And I didn't want an extra one. I wanted it installed onto the regular key fob instead. It couldn't be done so I said forget it. I'm curious too as what others have done, tried, heard about, etc. Good questions Serafino, and welcome aboard!

From the 2010 Taurus Build & Price site:

Yes you have to get this seperate remote and it is dealer install only. Ford is still working on factory remote start systems for all of their vehicles, but right now they are dealer install only. This key fob also has all of the features a regular fob has, plus the remote start, so you could just use this remote instead of the factory one (therefore not carrying around 2 fobs). You can also always go back to the dealer and get this installed if you change your mind down the road.

Typhoon,
Thanks for the info. I could be wrong but I believe the Power Code Remote Start system is only available for a taurus without a push button start. If you go to the build site and build a SHO, the remote start system is not listed as an available option and this was confirmed by my dealer. SO I guess this is the problem I am running into - is it even possible to have a remote starter installed in a car that has a push button start?

Astroflex/Astrostart remote starters can be installed on vehicles with push button starts; but it requires an additional special module.

If the vehicle has a factory remote starter they can install "range extenders" up to like 1000' but that's about the best you can get.

Otherwise you could just install a remote starter system only with no security functions like this:
http://www.astroflex.com/Products/Product.aspx?ProductID=4304

Then you just carry the separate starter key fob during the times when you think you will need it. That's what I would do

Why do you guys think push stArt is any different than anything else? Some Key start auto requires brake and turn key. Our car requires brake and button. Manual require clutch and key. How do you think they bypass it all?

No you cannot use the ford remote start fob in place of the new Taurus limited or sho because our fob contains a transmitter for locks and ignition

And if you were to go elsewhere to have one installed, be warned. My dealer advised me to wait to have them install one as my warranty may be jeopardized. What part of the warranty, I'm not sure though. I've had well over 10 vehicles with a remote start installed. I have personally done 4 myself, and they can be a PITA. I wouldn't consider doing my own on the 2010 SHO, even though folks claim the CANbus wiring system makes things easier to hook up but can play **** when installing such devices as the remote start, new stereo equipment, radios, etc. So who wants to be the guniea pig???:nut:

I bet you the Viper/Avistart system would work. I think the ignition system is pretty common to most other cars and it would fit right in. The only problem I see with the key thing.. but I think there is some other type of "authentication" with the remote being inside the car.. or might just have to press the button.. I dunno till someone tries it I guess.

I can tell you that the CAN bus does NOT make it easier to install even a Ford remote starter. I have the Ford Remote Start system for my '06 LS, which is CAN, and after three years it's still sitting in the box under my desk because the installation manual looks like a freaking encyclopedia. You'd think it would be plug and play, but **** no. I haven't seen that much splicing since, well, I don't remember ever having to do that much splicing...:nut:

That's BS if they tell you it would void some warranty. However, if it is improperly installed & it causes other problem that can be traced down to a problem with the remote start, THEN yes those problems would not be covered under warranty.

But here's a key to install any brand of remote starter/security (and I do not advised cheap store brands like Viper).....
**DO NOT INSTALL THESE SYSTEMS YOURSELF OR HAVE THE LOCAL GUY OR YOUNG GROUP OF KIDS IN THE AUDIO SHOP DOWN THE STREET INSTALL THESE SYSTEMS UNLESS THEY ARE TRAINER, CERTIFIED, & VERY EXPERIENCED IN DOING SO.!!!**

Do NOT go to the place that advertises the lowest price or the biggest coupon to install these systems, it will most likely end in pain and tears eventually. I see so many of these people who come into my auto repair shop that do this and start having all sorts of problems that become very expensive. And dealerships aren't always the best place to install them either. Don't trust them just because they are a dealership. Several of the large local dealerships here in Fargo screw up AstroStart installs all the time on new vehicles and my company ends up fixing it.

I'm hoping to see one of these pop up, and possible some other options besides coastal tech's nav safety bypass.

Well it looks like Ford is listening because they just announced a huge deployment of remote start as an option on all 2011 FLM vehicles. This factory installed system also allows for heated/cooled seats to be activated by remote .
So no more of :shiver: on the way to work in the morning.

Full Article Here

More importantly for you, later in the article it says:
Launching later this month is an optional system that’s compatible with the Intelligent Access with Push Button Start system available on the 2010 Ford Taurus and Lincoln MKS, soon followed by the factory-installed system.
