I just bought a remote start (with remote keyless entry) for my 93ATX and I was wondering if anyone has done this on their own before and has any hints or trick!! Also, a wiring diagram would be very helpful if anybody has one!!

Yes, it IS possible to do on an MTX, but it usually requires a special module, and most installers will NOT do it, just like most places won't do a carburetored car (though it's doable as well). It's a lot more expensive to do it as well.

Essentially, you have to always leave the car in N and keep the p-brake on. I don't like that idea at all, personally.

I suppose it'd be possible if you had some sort of machine to push down the clutch pedal. Or you could not put the car in gear, and leave a cinder block on the clutch pedal... just some suggestions

All you have to do to make it work on a mtx is disable the neutral safety switch, which is under the dash. Take a look under there, it should be right above the clutch pedal....pull the wire to the plunger type switch, and you're good to go. Only problem is you MUST leave the vehicle in neutral all the time. If you forget and leave it in gear and try to remotely start it, well, use your imagination. Also, keep your fingers crossed that your parking brake doesn't freeze solid on cold nights, cause then you are going nowhere fast.

You can use a remote start with a manual trannsmission its vvery easy to do just connect the wires together on the clutch saftey switich. The little trick i learned on doing them is( on DEI remote starts only}connect the netural saftey wire from the rempte start to the emergency brake wire this way it will only start if the emergence brake is pushed down. as far as wires gothese should be the right ones but they are off the top of my head
starter .......red with light blue stripe
heater.......gray with yellow stripe there may be more than one power all of these up usually one is for heater and one is for ac
ingition......usually red with a green stripe
battery........yellow orlight greeen with a purple stripe
brake............light greenwith red stripe

remember to check all wire to make sure they are right before connecting, ford changed wire colors all the time

I am bringing this thread to the top to avoid posting another thread.

Would it be possible to use the 2nd channel output (normally used for trunk pop) for the gas door pop?

Anyone know what color wire I would be looking for, and where?

isnt the gas door release mechanical?
if so, you can not use the output unless you figure a way to rig up an actuator to the mechanical cable gas door popper. if it is electric, just test the wires going to the switch and find if it is (-)or(+) trigger, and since the output coming from the remote start module only supplies a (-) 200milliamp output (most common, im using dei remote starts as my basis) you will have to wire up a relay accordingly

It is possible to install a remote start on a MTX but I would recommend against it. My friend had one put on, fine for a year until one day he slipped and forgot. New bumper and higher insurance for him, new axle, body panels, and headache for the person he hit. Luckily it was someone he knew so it wasn't too bad. But anyway, it is cool, but you will kick yourself first time you forget and watch the fireworks.

I have one in my Manual car. Before I turn the ignition off I have to push the brake petal hold the clutch and pull up on the parking brake after this I have to push the button on the remote(ehile still holding my feet on the clutch and brake) which unlocks the doors and I am able to take my feet off the petals and take the key out while the motor still runs--Then when I get out of the car and close the door I push the button again and it locks the doors arms the alarm and shuts the engine off. This way there is no possible way that the car will be able to start if you haven't shut it off correctly and won't damage anything by making a mistake. It's actually really easy to use just takes a lot of words to describe it. It cost me if I remember around $300 (200 US)for the unit in Canadian installed. Although it took my installer 7 hours to do and he said that next time he would definately charge more and he gave me a real good deal in the first place.
