After rotating my tires today at work and flipping them so I can get the most life out of them, I see this now on one of my tires. I told Ford last year that they were cracking on the other side and they said it was just surface cracks from the weather, tire shine, etc. nothing to worry about.

I can understand that as I'm in the tire business too, so I let it go and just kept an eye on them. They did get a little bit bigger, but still no concern. Then, I flipped them and see this, on the inside where they are not exposed to the sun and no tire shine. Plus my car stays in the garage and has seen rain as many times as I can count on my hands and feet in nearly three years.

I'm awaiting a phone call from Ford now and see what they can do. I know its a PITA dealing with tire warranty, especially with Michelin/BFG. What would you guys do? I'm about to drive 3,000 miles in less than two weeks. Am I over re-acting?

Doing it right ...

It's like you are :banghd: Don't wanna be the test dummy that loves an exploding tire. Hold Ford/Michelin responsible!

Your not over reacting, you'd rather be safe than sorry. Yes there are many belts in the tire but a crack along the side can lead to tread separation and when your on the highway, with the increased summer heat, family in the car, its the last thing you want on your mind. So, your right in having them remedy or note the situation.

Just talked to Ford and they passed the buck to my local Michelin dealer. What a PITA it is to file a claim, take the tires off, send them in for inspection, wait for a reply and then see what they say. And I have to buy tires up front. Just what I needed to add to my full plate at this time. :madflame:

The picture that you have should do the trick, if there is a willingness to help on their part.

If you go through with buying new tires, make sure they are not Michelins.
Since they forced you into it, and since you are having issues with your current Michelins, they can hardly expect you to buy their brand at this point.
What you buy next, has nothing to do with a legitimate tire warranty issue.
Good luck.

-prolly will give you a pro rated use of the tire depending on tread depthof hhow much tire has been used. usually Mich/BFG are good about that. wont be free, but not a full price either....

I bought a 2010 SHO with 13k miles on it 5 weeks ago and last week while I was detailing it (yeah it took me a little while but life kept me busy and the weather wasn't helping) I did notice my front tires were cracked. They do not look too deep but when I go for the oil change, I'll get my dealership to look at them. It's the first time I see tires crack like that.

Are they the MX series Michelin's? If so, they did that on my parent's fusion with 17's......they were replaced by Ford with Bridgestones for free.

You may also want to check the INSIDE of your tires too. Before I moved across country, I went ahead and flipped the tires since I had the means to do so and to get the best life out of the tires. Well, on the inside of the front one, there was a gaping wound and tread separation big time. And of course Ford passed the buck, blah blah blah.

I had to buy new Nitto 420S tires to travel across country and am still awaiting to hear from Michelin about what they are going to do with a set of tires that obviously wasn't made correctly with a certain amount of compound/material in the formulation of the tires when they were being made in our "SHO models" batch of tires, and now we all have the same issue.

Says alot about their customer service in coming from two multi million dollar companies, huh?

Hmm, wonder if this is why MXV4 tires are on national backorder, I can't seem to get any.
