Does anyone have any experience with buying a remanufactured water pump? Because I found one for $41.15 and the cheapest I found a new one was $180. If I could save that kind of money without really sacrificing quality I'd like to.

they are jsut as good as a new one, they usually have all new parts, including bearings, i installed one on my car and it works flawlessly. i would recommend it. Oh yeah some come with a lifetime warranty, check around for those, i think mine was like $6X. good luck

The other side of the coin is all the labour it takes to replace the pump should it fail again.
I had mine replaced a few weeks ago, along with everyting else I could get replaced while the front of the engine was apart (Ford part) and I sure hope it lasts a long time!

The only parts of a reman that are not new are the case, and possibly the pully and impeller. With the impeller and pully as needed. All other components are changed so it has the same durabilty as a new pump just doesn't look as pretty. So if your going for looks (btw~don't forgett how visable the water pump is) then buy the new one but I recomend the reman A1 Cordone which can be purchased at many fine auto parts 3.0L A1 Cardone 57-1373
3.2L A1 Cardone 57-1458

Also recomend the water pump gasket kit as well

Fel-Pro ES70425 RockAuto.com

Good luck.

rockauto.com sells the Cardone 57-1373 for $36.95 plus a $10 core charge.

I just put one in over the weekend. It is the front half only with a gasket. Since there are no moving parts in the back half, there is no sense in replacing the whole thing unless your housing is actually cracked or damaged. Use the new O-rings as suggested above. It looks brand new.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I just wonder if I should get the whole water pump or if just the front would be sufficient. See, my original intent was actually to get the plug well seals fixed. Then I thought while its getting worked on I'd do valve cover gaskets, timing belt, and waterpump. I've got almost 115K on my SHO so I figure these things will be needed. I've already done CPS and thermostat. I know there is something about valve shims and valve lash adjustment, I just have absolutely no clue what that is and what's involved.

I got one from Napa for around $42. Here is a pic.

It also came with a brand new gasket of course. It's been in the car for a month and no problems.
