Regular maintenance

I am a 1st time SHO owner & brand new to this forum. So I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I have a '94 SHO with 150,000 miles on it. I'm planning a road trip in it so I'm doing some regular maintenance on it prior to leaving. The previous owner used Castrol 5-W30 on it. Should I consider going synthetic at this point? Should I consider draining the transmission and replacing the fluid (manual 5 speed), is there any other maintenance I should consider doing on it? Thanks in advance.

How does your SHO run, do you have any history on it?

Most SHO's by the time they hit 150k need to be thoroughly gone through and have fluid's changed, 60k, ect.

The general 60k mile service is timing belt, water pump, crank sensor, plugs, and wires.

Gaskets that usually go with that service are valve cover (if you spark plug tubes are full of oil) and cam and crank seals (they are usually leaking by that point).

If your MTX has never had a fluid change that isn't a bad idea either.

Your opening up a can of worms with the oil question. If it has been on Castrol GTX 5w30 most of it's life, that is a good oil and i'd stick to it (with a Ford filter - anything except Fram).

How do you like your SHO, is it beat up or in good condition?

The car is in great shape. Body is good, engine is strong, tranny is smooth. All of the maintenance has been kept up. The 60K service was done on it. I can get all of the specifics of what has been done. The car runs really well though. I think I'm really going to enjoy it.

I had always head that switching to a synthetic oil was a good idea after 100K. So I wasn't sure if I should do that for my SHO

the general rule of thumb is that switching to a synthetic after 100k is not a good idea, although that is not as accurate now as it was years ago when synthetics would tend to let seals shrink and leak.

staying with the same brand of good quality oil is always the best strategy, so I agree w/ Doug that you should keep using Castrol.
