Also how many hours of labour should i expect to pay for by a local transmission shop for a PTU, RDU, and ATF fluid change? Just draining and refilling.....

Thank you Brother! i Ordered 2 quartz of redline for the PTU and RDU and 12 quarts of Mercon LV... do you think i will need more than 12 quartz if im just doing a drain and refill?

No worries. Do you change your own oil? If you do, you can do your own trans fluid swap. It is that easy.

Do you have a PP SHO?

yes i got a 2015 PP sho... i dont have a garage or any tools sadly...

Perfect. For the PTU this is the easiest way for them to do it since you have a PP.

What I did, what I used, and how I did it. You can do it yourself, or you can have a shop do this.

I would buy some Redline Lightweight Shockproof fluid off Amazon, 2 and a half feet of 1/4 id rubber fuel hose, some aluminum foil, and take this thread to them below.

https://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php/topic,8081.msg144207.html#msg144207

I would bring aluminum foil to cover the downpipes and 02 sensor. Drain the PTU fluid and have them catch the fluid in a pan. Measure to see how much comes out, and the how bad shape the fluid is in. See if there are any chunkies in the fluid. Metal shavings on the magnet drain plug are normal. It is a direct gear drive system with the PTU. The aluminum foil will protect everything and clean up will be a snap. Clean and re-install the drain plug.

Route the hose down from near the brake booster. Then tell them to remove vent hose from the top of the PTU and slip that 1/4 inch fuel line hose onto the vent ******. The hose will be snug and should not slip off. Use that to fill refill the PTU with fluid. This will take some time. The PTU holds roughly 18 oz of fluid. Remove the hose, put the PTU vent hose back on. It's that simple. Should take less then an hour.

The RDU can be attacked two different ways. They can remove the rear cover and drain the RDU that way. That is how I would do it personally because that ensures most if not all fluid will come out. Have them reinstall the rear cover with a new gasket or silicone, and fill it to capacity with the Redline LW Shock Proof Fluid. Do let them try to tell you any different. You want that fluid in both the PTU and RDU.

The Trans is easy. Do not let them flush the trans. Tell them to drop the drain plug on the trans. Have them measure it what comes out. This will drop roughly 5 quarts of trans fluid. Put that amount back in with the new fluid and have them be sure the fluid is in operating range on the the dipstick. Since you have a case of Mercon LV (buy three more quarts) have them do that every time they change the engine oil for the next 3 oil changes.

Since I'm not driving my SHO anymore (winter) my motivation has almost entirely fallen off....but as I looked at my PTU and RDU samples still waiting to be shipped out....I realize I need to get them shipped. I'll ship them to Blackstone tomorrow and share the findings with everyone once I get them back. Not sure if anyone has tested their PTU or RDU fluid before.

What if it isn't a PP, I have a 2013 and would really like to know which PTU fluid to go with. I have about 55k miles and from what I've gathered, the PTU fluid hasn't ever been changed and I drive the car every day, and put a decent amount of miles on it since it is my every day car. What would you suggest. I see the Redline Lightweight Shockproof and I've read some with the Royal Purple Severe Gear? While I'm at it, what would you all recommend for transmission fluid also because I plan to get them both changed this coming up Friday.
Thanks!

In the first post towards the bottom, I talk about PTU maintenance and trans fluid cycling along with some other things.
